This setting is modernized, characters belong to Rick Riordan and is from his series "Percy Jackson" (highly recommended to read before reading this)
It is strange how the absence of people can change a building so dramatically. The school usually a place filled to the brim with different people. But as the summer months crept on and the semester came to an end students fled like the wind. Many would never meet and some know each other too well. Piper a laidback beautiful young girl, with the entire world at her feet. Stood at the entrance of the old school building. Her dark brown hair naturally flowed over her shoulders. She had her gray bag slung over her shoulder, her left hand holding it nonchalantly in place. A natural kind smile rested on her face as she walked through the eerie silent hallways. Her bag swinging with every step, her eyes scanning for the number 32 a red door at the end of the east wing. The east wing was commonly used for smaller stuff, special classes, science in classrooms way to small for one class. Piper eventually stopped in front of the door, glancing it up and down. The handle rusted and the paint on the door chipped. It looked like it was about to fall apart, much like the rest of the school. "Okay In talking a bit and I'll be out" she whispered under her breath. She fixed her plain gray tee and jeans before she confidently swung open the door. Her confident figure strolled in and without giving the person in room and sign of acknowledgment she sat down. The humid air would have caused anyone's hair trouble, not Piper thought. She had always been lucky always looked fresh, naturally beautiful. Which caused a lot of envy from the other girls.
Piper was used to situations like this, she would constantly get in fights or trouble with the so-called popular girls she scoffed at the thought of them. Nasty people just there to make the world a terrible place. Everything started when Piper's ex-boyfriend Jason fell for her and not Mia. Ever since that little incident, the little squad of pretty girl clones had made it their mission to make her life hell. Piper rarely seemed to bother, half-hearted remarks on her outdated shoes, plainclothes or lack of makeup. Most of what they said slid under Piper's radar she just let it go. However, when they started going at her friends that's where Piper drew the line... Leo always got the worst of it, spat on, downright bullied by the means girls and their little army of jock fanboys. Piper sat down, she had to take summer school, the only student to do so as well. After having given Mia an outright mean right hook, for shaming Leo. Piper found herself in a sticky situation, stuck at the principal's office with her father next to her. Lucky her the principle seemed to be a huge fan of his works, the principal eagerly accepted his proposal. Piper wouldn't get expelled if she took summer school and aced every class. Fine she though, she could just sweet talk the teachers. However, the world is rarely that simple.
She had heard it every now and then, she had the same talent as her father. A natural knack for preaching, maybe in another life she could have become a huge spokeswoman. That was however in another life kind of deal. Piper were tired, fed up with having everyone tell her what to do with her life. Everyone even Leo always nagged at her for never speaking up. "Imagine how much of a difference you could make Pipes! I mean whenever you speak everyone they just listen" Leo's voice rang in her head. His annoying yet sweet voice always made her smile. He wasn't wrong, more right than Piper liked to admit. She was good at talking, maybe not to the extent Leo seemed to think, but she knew she could weasel her way out of most situations. After all, that was how she managed to get an A in science even after having missed most classes. Miss Nelson was such a softie, always giving after whenever Piper turned on the charm.
A firm "Ehem" woke Pipes up form her little daydream, a young woman. Honey blonde hair messily tied up into a bun, gray yet warm eyes stared her down. "Oh boy" Piper let out under her breath, she wasn't sure if the young woman had heard her. She knew who this was, little miss gold star. Annabeth, the honour graduate, teacher's pet, the most perfect girl at school. Piper sighed and leaned back eyeing the girl up and down a few before she gave her a false yet warm smile "can I help?" Her own voice was sweet, sticky like honey, nothing but fake. Annabeth was everything Piper hated, she had the whole attitude down as well. I'm going to become famous, and I'm better than you. That was at least the vibe Annabeth gave off. Another idiot that's going to tell her how she is wasting her life how great. The tiny classroom felt damp, reeked of dust with the tiniest hint of mold. The sun shone brightly outside, the rays dancing in the dust that was hanging in the air. God Piper wishes she could just have been outside, with Leo and her friends. But no...
Piper looked directly into Annabeth's eyes, she needed to see the girl's reaction as she spoke. Her own silver tongue working its magic, it always filled her with such joy. "I am sorry I always seem to get lost in my own thoughts" piper gave a tiny innocent chuckle. "You know how it feels right miss?... I don't think I've had the pleasure of meeting you yet" Piper held her hand out, smiling kindly and politely. Any second now, those firm gray eyes would change and Piper would be in control again. However they didn't, Annabeth kept staring at her. Her face was hard to read but she seemed more disappointed than anything. Piper just waited for a snide to good for your reply but Annabeth kindly shook her hand and smiled and just shook her head in disapproval. "We haven't formally met, but I think you know who I am" a tiny chuckle escaped her lips as she looked at Piper. Barely able to contain herself she scoffed, Piper looked at her with disgust. She had been right, Annabeth was just this annoying smart girl with a superiority complex. "Do you always waddle around assuming everyone knows your name?" Piper almost spat it out her. She turned around and slung her bag back over her shoulder. "Yeh, I think I'd rather be expelled than have you be my summer school teacher. I can't stand people like you." A furious Piper was about to storm off as Annabeth gently stopped her. Her right hand rested on Piper's shoulder turning her around as she nipped a piece of paper out of her bag. "I know that you know who I am because it says her right next to room number" Annabeth kept calm, she was almost smiling. Piper turned around blushing, she felt really terrible. She was so obsessed with proving her own first impression right, to even give Annabeth a chance. Annabeth was right she had read it and she did know already.
Piper looked at her, sat down again quietly and took a deep breath. "Okay okay, you are right..." apologies were never Pipers strong point. She was far too proud to admit fault, but she felt so silly, so rude. She bit her lip anxiously as she repeated the sentence a few times in her head before she finally managed to sound it out. "Right I'm sorry for not reading your note, little miss perfect" Piper looked down, she didn't wanna look at her right now. She didn't want Annabeth to see how much it hurt her pride admitting she couldn't talk her way out of this. "Now now" Annabeth's voice felt warm and almost a little playful "it happens, I can't imagine what it's like being in your shoes, your father being who he is and all" Annabeth had a confident smirk smeared over her face as she spoke. It was annoying, she knew that she was rarely wrong. Piper looked surprised, she rarely discloses such information. Her father was a touchy subject and so far only the principle and Leo knew. Not even Jason... "What" Annabeth stroke her shoulder almost nudged her a little. Piper could barely mutter a word, the principal had been paid handsomely to not say anything! "How do you?" Piper exclaimed almost in shock, god this was nightmare fuel people figuring out who she really was... "my stepmom really likes old romantic movies so I kinda put two and two together. You both have the same mesmerizing eyes" Annabeth chuckled as she spoke. "You could have remained calm and I would never have known" Piper felt like she was about to burst. Again her own feelings ruined everything! A warm hot blush washed over her face and forced her to stare down. Annabeth let out a playful laugh, she knew she was seldom wrong, and it always felt good being proved right. "Don't worry though, your little secret is safe with me" piper glared at Annabeth as she said it. She hated how smug she looked, how teasing her tone had been.
It was a first, piper felt powerless. Her usual tricks didn't work, the sympathy smooth-talking card... it always worked! Piper shook her head subtly as she tried to figure out what was going on. And how this girl suddenly became so incredibly interesting, why didn't her smooth talk work on her when it did on everyone else? How did she know about her father? Were she going to blackmail!! Her tone had suggested that much, did she want money? Fame? She must have wanted money, what else could there have been?
