"You're Seriously Going to Make Me Sleep on the Couch Because I Beat You in Monopoly?!"

"Whoo! I won! I finally beat the king of Monopoly!" Eliza smiled wildly at her huge accomplishment. She got up and did a little victory dance, her hips swaying back and forth as she made up a silly song about her win.

Alexander, on the other hand, still sat in defeat, tossing all the pieces of the game back into the box, embarrassed and upset that his title had been lost. He hadn't lost a game of Monopoly in his entire life, and his newly wedded wife had finally beat him.

"Oh come on, Eliza, I clearly let you win." He kept telling himself that, hoping he'd start to believe himself, and more importantly, that Eliza would believe him. He huffed as he shoved the top back onto the box and folded his arms like a little child who was just told he couldn't have another cookie.

"Nuh-uh, babe! I beat you fair and square!" She continued her little victory dance, something Alex would have found absolutely adorable if it was over something other than beating him in Monopoly. She stopped her hips and took a look at her oh-so-distraught husband. "Oh, quit your pouting, Alex. It takes more muscles to frown than to smile!" She lightly smacked his cheek, hoping he'd start laughing too.

But he didn't. Instead, he got up to go to their room.

Eliza couldn't believe how ridiculous Alex was being. Giving her the silent treatment? Pouting about a silly game? Of course her husband was.

She followed him up the stairs to their bedroom, now realizing how genuinely upset he was. "Look, I'm sorry, honey. I didn't realize I'd upset you by being excited that I won," she said as they reached their room. He turned and handed her a pillow and some blankets. "You're seriously going to make me sleep on the couch because I beat you in Monopoly?!" Eliza asked, almost laughing at her husband's ridiculousness as she pushed away the items. She watched as Alex nodded his head and handed her the pillow and blankets once again. "You've got to be kidding me, Alexander!"

Yikes... the full Alexander. It was always Alex, or babe, or sweetheart or some other sweet pet name. Never his full name. She clearly wasn't joking around anymore. His face softened a little bit, but he was too stubborn to give up on this now.

"Alexander, I'm not sleeping on the couch, and that's final! Either you're going to suck it up and sleep with me, or you're going to sleep on the couch. I'm not the one having a bad attitude about losing a silly little game!"

Both stood looking at each other silently after her little outburst. Her eyes looked right into his eyes, the ones that made her fall for him in the first place. She saw stress and tiredness among the plain annoyance that he had lost. She brought her hand up to his dark hair and ran her fingers through it softly. "Did you have a rough day at work?" she asked gently, softening up, thinking he was probably being irrational and ridiculous because he had a hard day at his job. Probably that stupid Jefferson

He nodded lightly after a few seconds, looking like he was ready to break down.

"Oh, sweetheart," Eliza added sympathetically, pulling him into her arms, his head buried into her neck as she kissed his forehead. She whispered sweet nothings into his ear as she rubbed his back, a sure strategy that always calmed him down. "I'm sure my gloating didn't help, huh. I'm sorry, but I'm not the only one at fault. You didn't need to get so upset, but I can see how easy it must have been after a rough day at work. Was it Jefferson again?" He nodded into her shoulder. "What can I do to help? Can I get you some coffee? Do you need to take a break from work for a little while? We could stay in tonight and order pizza and watch movies until we fall asleep."

Alex lifted his head to look at his good wife. He truly was blessed to have Eliza as his wife and best friend. She always knew what he needed, even if he didn't necessarily always like it. "I'd like nothing more than some downtime with you." He smiled for the first time since he got home from work and pecked her lips lightly.

"And no thinking about or complaining about Jefferson the rest of the night!"

"But he's a freaking idiot, Liza!"

She gave him the look, telling him to calm down. "You can complain all you want about him this weekend, but tonight it's just me and you, all right?" She leaned in to kiss him passionately, pulling him even closer if that was even possible.

"All right," he said as she pulled away, just quickly enough to speak and then pull her in again for another kiss.
