Water.
Water is everywhere. From the water that you drink on a daily basis, to small ponds, lakes in all different sizes, groundwater, and the vast oceans. Anyone would say that water is common, and it is. But according to The National Academy of Sciences, at least 88% of the Earth's oceans are polluted with plastic.
Seastewards says that Americans generate 10.5 million tons of plastic waste per year, and only 2 or even 1% of it gets recycled.
The more plastic that we make is the more garbage that we throw. The more garbage that we throw is the more plastic in our oceans.
According to seawaste, there is an estimated 14 billion pounds of trash that gets dumped into the ocean every year. Every year. Can you even begin to imagine such an enormous number? Well, that intense number is polluting our oceans. ALL of our oceans.
In these oceans are poor, helpless sea animals who mistake these plastics for food. For example, the sea turtles who injest these so called jellyfish are actually consuming plastic. National Geographic says that there's so much plastic flowing into the ocean that 90% of seabirds have already consumed plastic debris.
Plastic debris in the oceans are killing every type of sea animal every single day. According to seastewards, plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1 million marine animals and birds every year.
Plastic never just 'goes away'; it only gets smaller. A normal plastic item takes 1000 years to decompose. That's about 12 times longer than our average lifetime. If we continue to pollute the oceans at this rate, there will be more plastic than fish by 2050.
What hope to we have for this already well polluted planet? I have to admit, not too much. But we can do something, even with that slightest bit of hope.
Help pick up trash and recycle whenever you get the chance. Buy reusable water bottles and reusable containers to reduce the use of plastic. Recycling is a simple deed that can do so much for the oceans. We may not be able to undo what is already done, but we can fix the damage.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun writing this, even if it sounds waayy better in speaking form lol. Pollution is something that I'm very concerned about...soo I decided to write about that! Ngl, this was like a mini Soapbox Challenge thingy. But I swear im like an environmentalist or somethin...
I wasn't expecting to publish this, but it's better than nothing! Do the environment a favor and do all of those things I mentioned. Cheers to saving our environment! :D
