Adelaide: Today For Tomorrow

Chapter 6

We were soaking in sweat nang matapos kami. Hindi gaanong kalalim ang nabungkal namin pero pwede pang dagdagan ng sampung buto't natitirang laman ng mga changer.

I kinda regret suggesting that we should start burying them though. Who wouldn't? This is exhausting!

Nang makapasok na kami ay isinara na namin ang gate. Dumiretso ako sa loob, hindi ko nilingon si Phoenix. Minsan, napapaisip ako na mas maganda kung bumalik nalang sya sa pagsusungit nya sa akin. Dahil kung ganito, mag-aaway lang kami palagi at nakakahiya kay Selena.

I took a bath with a very limited amount of water. Pero nakuntento na ako.

Selena ordered us to conserve water more than anything. We can live days without food, but not without water. I just hope it rains heavily so that the ground will get wet and we can plant tomorrow.

May nakalimutan pala kaming gawin kanina. We forgot to stop by a gasoline station. At wala rin akong nakita sa lugar.

Nang makatapos akong magbihis ay bumaba ako. Papalubong na ang araw.

The sky is not orange or brown or pink this time. It's color dark blue, there are gray clouds and I saw a lightning in the sky. Mukhang matutupad ang panalangin kong umulan.

I wrinkled my forehead when I can't find Chase. Saan naman kaya nagpunta ang isang 'yon?

Hinanap ko sya sa kusina. Sa ilalim ng mga upuan, sa likod ng mga cabinet, sa kahit saan pati sa itaas pero wala. Then I heard him barked.

Napatingin ako sa bintana. Medyo madilim na. Nasa labas si Phoenix, nakaupo si Chase sa harap nya. It's like they're talking to each other. I smiled.

He's training Chase. And he's giving him food. Napatingin sa gawi ko si Phoenix pero lumayo ako sa bintana at inayos ang kurtina nito. I don't want to talk to him. He's being so mean. Hindi dapat. Sobrang daming bagay ngayon na kailangang pagtuonan ng pansin, hindi ang asarin ako.

I have no time for games, I have no time for love, I have no time seeking for his attention. At dapat sya rin. I don't mean that he has feelings for me. It's for my case, I don't want to like or worst love him in this chaotic world.

That's it.

Ako na ang naghanda ng hapunan. Hell, I'm also a great cook. Ako ang naghahanda para sa amin ni Mama at Gavin tuwing umaga.

I prepare everything for Gave before I go to work. After work, I cook for our dinner but it depends on my shift sometimes.

I work in a hotel in our city. I'm earning good money which I'm saving but I can't use it now. Money is worthless now. Food, weapons, meds? They're now everything.

Dumating si Phoenix sa kalagitnaan ng ginagawa ko. Tumakbo agad si Chase patungo sa akin na parang nakangisi.

"Hello, Chase. How's your day?" I cooed.

He barked. He kept on wiggling his tale. I smiled. He's just so adorable.

Hindi lumapit si Phoenix pero nakita ko syang nanonood lang sa akin. He's leaning on the door, arms crossed in his chest. I wonder if his chest still hurts. Well, whatever. He deserves it.

"This is good, Aide. Are you a chef or what?" Puna ni Selena.

Ngumiti ako at umiling. "I work in the front desks, I talk to guests and bid goodbyes."

"Oh! So, you're a hotelier." Gulat na sabi ni Selena habang ngumunguya.

Tinignan ko si Phoenix, nakatingin sya sa akin.

Tumango-tango ako. "Yeah. Before everything went to shit. What about you, Phoenix?"

Phoenix did not expect that I'm gonna ask him. He cleared his throat. He wiped his mouth with his palm before he returned his gaze to me.
