Caroline and Riley were sharing their old bedroom in their parents' house, now that Caroline could get back into Mystic Falls. Riley slept soundly, but Caroline spent the night full of worry. She was anxious for morning to come so that she could see how her mom responded to her blood. She kept remembering Colin, and how much better he was because of her.

There was a thud downstairs, and Caroline instantly sat up in bed, listening intently. She was about to go back to sleep, when she heard another noise. This time, she shook her sister.

"Riley, did you hear that?" she whispered into the darkness.

"I hear you," Riley muttered grumpily in response. Caroline rolled her eyes and got out of bed. She looked out the window but saw nothing. Still, she was on edge. Especially when the next noise she heard was another thud.

"Riles!" Caroline said, louder this time. "I think there's someone downstairs."

Riley rolled over. "It's probably my dad. Go to sleep."

"It's not your dad," Caroline insisted fervently. Slowly, she made her way towards the door. "I know I'm an indestructible vampire, but are you really gonna make me face a potential intruder alone?"

Riley opened her eyes slowly and blinked a few times, getting her eyes used to the darkness. "If there's no one there I'm gonna be so mad."

They walked down the stairs one after the other, looking for signs that someone had broken in. But both doors were locked, and nothing was out of place.

"I'm going back to bed," Riley asserted, her foot already on the first step, when she herself heard a strange noise, coming from the front door. Opening it hurriedly, she saw someone familiar come into view.

"Oh my God," Caroline said softly, covering her mouth with her hand. "Colin?"

Colin the cancer patient held himself up by placing his bloodied hand on the doorframe.

"Caroline Forbes, what did you do to me?" he asked in a rough voice.

"Uh, you should probably come in," Riley told him, opening the door widely. "You know, we have neighbors..."

Colin took her advice, entering the house and collapsing on the sofa, coughing. Then he closed his eyes, as if he was getting ready to sleep.

"What are you doing?" Caroline asked, grabbing Riley's arm as she looked at her phone screen.

"Calling Stefan, obviously."

"It's 3am!" the blonde vampire hissed, looking at the clock on the mantle.

Riley's eyes widened in the darkness. "This is an emergency, Caroline!" she reminded her, the phone to her ear as it began to ring. "Hi Stefan. Yeah, I know what time it is. Look, can you come over? There's a problem."

The urgency in her voice didn't go unnoticed; Stefan got to their place as fast as he could. Colin was still asleep on the couch.

"What happened?" he asked as soon as he saw him, recognizing the man instantly.

"I don't know," Caroline replied, watching him. "He was fine when we left him at Duke, remember?"

"Well, he's clearly not fine now," Stefan stated the obvious. "I thought you compelled him, how did he find you?"

"No clue," Riley said.

Stefan looked at him closely. "Riley, did you invite him in?"

Riley frowned. "He was bleeding on the doorstep, what else was I supposed to do?"
