Double Shift (Part 2)

"Grab on!" Coulson shouts over the roaring engines.

"Don't have to tell me twice!" Ax says as he carefully wraps an arm around my waist while his other secures a hold on the rope. As the others are beginning to rise (Spidey using his webs to get onto the ship) Ax and I lag a bit because of the added weight of two people. I hear Iron Fist let out a vicious snarl and I turn to see him trying to get to the ship as we're flying away.

He leaps from a chimney, snapping a corner off as his fist glows to land a hit on us, and he nearly gets a direct shot if Ax didn't swing us away in time. The burning chi brushes against my injured arm, and I can't hold back the scream as it burns at my skin like fire. I squeeze my eyes shut from the searing pain, hearing him collide with something as Ax quickly helps me up into the ship.

I breathe through the pain, hearing Spidey yelling from the outside as someone tries to look at my arm. I can feel a warm trickling sensation drip down my forearm as the ship zig zags, avoiding what sounds like Nova's blasts. Spidey shouts again and I force myself to sit up, knowing that it isn't the time to sit back.

A cool hand holds me back, and I look up to Simone through the slits of my eyes. She doesn't say a word, but her eyes are serious and the hands on my arm glow a faint white. She concentrates on her hands; the glow brightening as the light travels into my skin and it momentarily stings before it cools. The pain from Iron Fist's chi vanishes, and I can feel my healing factor kicking into overdrive.

Just as the burn heals over, her concentration breaks and she falls forward and I'm well enough to catch her, feeling energized now. She rests her head on my shoulder and I can't keep the confusion out of my voice. "Simone? H-How? What was that?!"

"Glad that worked..." she laughed weakly, pushing herself up to sit on her knees as she wobbles.

"Simone!"

"I just need a sec... and I'll be good," she said, putting a hand to her forehead. I'm about to ask her again just what the hell that was, but I'm interrupted by Spidey swinging himself onto the ship.

"That was a nice shot Coulson!" he says, and I register the big ass gun in his Coulson's arms as Spidey looks us over. "We've seen better days."

"Same to you, Web-Head. Missed one hell of a light show." Ax says as Spider-Man throws me a confused look.

"We'll explain later... I hope."

"As much as I hate to interrupt, we need to stop the Goblin. With his plans on releasing the Goblin Gas and the IVY situation, we've had our people spread thin." Coulson says. "We're getting the Tri-Carrier into position and while we do that, you need to get the team back to their senses. We need as much manpower as we can get with the Hell-Carrier flying around."

"We know..." Spidey starts, "they're our team and I feel responsible for what happened. I hesitated, and Shadow Fox had to remind me of the bigger picture. The City comes first."

"If they were us, they'd want us to stop them..." I feel like I'm telling that more to myself than to the others, but the throbbing pain in my side reminds me just what they're capable of.

"Your heads in the right place, but where's your heart?" Coulson asks as Spidey and I exchange a look. Coulson then brings out a case, opening to reveal five devices that could easily slip around our hands. "Compliments of Doc Connors, it's enough serum to cure them, but you only have one shot each."

"That's plenty enough." Spidey says, handing Ax and Connor one each as he kneels in front of Simone and I. "Are you sure you're up for this?"

"I'm good to go," she says, taking one device and standing. She still looks a little pale, but she's much better off than I am. "We have a job to do, right?" Spidey eyes her for a moment before nodding and then turning to me.

"Shadow Fox, I know how much Iron Fist means to you but—"

"That's exactly why I'm going," I say, taking the device. No matter how broken or tired I feel, I need to save them. I need to save him. "We need to play to our strengths. Connor, you're taking on White Tiger. Simone you take Nova and Ax, you're up against Power Man. Tracey, you're with Coulson. Do whatever you can to keep Goblin from firing off any of those gas bombs or whatever he has. I'll... I'll take on Iron Fist while Spider-Man goes after Goblin."

"Good plan. Couldn't have said it better myself!" Spider-Man says, and I smile at his words.

"I'm learning from the best."

"Alright, we're approaching the Hell-Carrier," Coulson says, and I can smell it before I see it. "The team's signals are already on board. Be on your guard."

The hatch opens up, and I get a brief flashback to DC, but I shake the memory away.

My friends need me, and there's no way we're letting Goblin have his way.

It's taken a while, but I finally managed to post this!

Writing the fight scenes between Ari and Danny hurt me, but I'm apparently an angst making machine... why am I like this...

The last couple of months have been pretty hectic, but I would really like to thank you all for sticking with me! (Ahh, I probably sound like a broken record...)
