jeongguk was a freshman when he heard the sophomore's music for the first time. the little boy was at an awkward stage in life and for some reason the raspy rap of the upperclassman was comforting. the artist himself was very isolated, but willingly so, despite jeongguk's constant attempts to spark a conversation.
it was an odd fixation that wasn't humored by anyone, but the boy was never discouraged. that in and of itself was odd as the boy was notorious for giving up. he squandered his own potential while adoring the reclusive rapper's. despite jeongguk's persistence, he never befriended his idol, if anything his idol pushed him away. it took three years of pining after the unattainable for jeongguk to treat the feelings like anything else in his life, conditional and unnecessary.
namjoon graduated with a dislike of jeongguk and that's where the story would've ended, but i wouldn't be writing this if it was really over.
