“Emma Jane Winterstone, get down here right this instant!” uh oh I thought

I rushed along the ancient hallway of the pub my family and I live in and down the creaky uneven stairs that had been covered in a ugly green carpet. The carpet as well as being green had been decorated by many pieces of chewing gum and scorch marks over the many years. Once at the bottom I ran past the kitchen; a small room at the back of the building that was furnished practically floor to ceiling in stainless steel, but Knowing my mum would be at the bar I didn't enter, instead I pushed open the battered wooden door that led into the dining room/bar area. The dining room had a threadbare carpet with many tables and chairs placed against the walls. The room also had a fire place that  would often be lit in the winter months and two small stain glass windows on both sides of the room; each decorated with a vase of freshly picked daffodils from the garden. I hopped down the step that led into the bar (similarly decorated as the dining room) and jogged over to the old pub bar where I found my mum cleaning last night's pint glasses. She looked up at my brash appearance and scolded me for not being more careful as apparently I could have ‘knocked someone over’. Ugh.

I looked at her expectantly, wringing my hands behind my back. When she eventually noticed my worry she laughed,

“ Oh don’t worry dear, you're not in trouble, I just wanted to see how fast you could make it down the stairs seeing as you always take years.”

“I do not take years” I whined, turning around.

“ mmmhm,anyway Owen’s here, he's waiting for you outside.”

“ ‘Kay, thanks mum,’ I gave her a ‘thank you but your annoying glare and went outside.

I walked around the back of the whitewashed building to where my bestest friend Owen was waiting for me, he was sitting on the fence at the back of the garden, staring up at the sky, he was quite a tall boy, probably the tallest in our year (although that's not saying much as almost everyone around here is short) he had short light brown hair that was styled to perfection - as always- and chocolate brown eyes that tended to have a mischievous glint them.

“earth to Owen.” i said drawing out the ‘n’, i wave my hand up and down in front of his face,

“oh hey Em,’ he said, snapping out of his trance, jumping off the fence and giving me a tight bear hug that almost suffocated me

“shall we go get a drink?” I suggested once I had checked my ribs were still intact

“YEAH we should play that drink game thingie!” he exclaimed

“ drink game thingie?” i looked at him quizzically,

“ yeah you know the one where we mix random drinks together and try to guess what’s in it.”

“Oh yeah that game. sure, i guess..” to be honest i’m not much of a big fan of this game as owen always manages to make up the worst combinations for me to drink.

“ come on Em it'll be fun, i promise i won’t make too much of a disgusting one this time”

I looked at him doubtfully

“Pleeaasseeeee” he looks at me with his annoyingly cute puppy dog eyes

“Uuggghhh fine” i growl

“YAAYYY!” he jumps up and down for joy swinging his arms around in a little victory dance.

“Come on then.” i said ,rolling my eyes at him and his childishness.
