[72] The Pledge

"Dad," Fifth tried to sound normal. "Just let them."

Dahil dito'y napatingin sa kanya ang mag-asawa. Bakas sa kanila ang pagtataka. "Let them? Did I hear you right, Travis?"

Fifth just looked down, trying to be as casual as possible. "Hayaan muna natin sila ngayong gabi. Besides, Crystal has been so lonely since she moved into your place. Let's give them this night for your daughter to be happy. Just for this New year's eve..."

Mirko's mouth fell at his words. How could this man give her daughter her freedom with someone else? But then, he shook the thought off his head. He's somewhat right. Admittedly, he has been so hard towards his daughter lately.

"Are you sure?" He asked.

"Mirko," his wife interfered and patted his arm. "He's right. Hayaan muna natin si Crystal. Let's give her a break tonight."

Mirko couldn't believe his ears, but all he can do is to say yes to him. He's the one who should be obeyed now. 

"Okay."

"But..." Fifth continued his words confidently. "... Tomorrow's gonna be their last day together because I want to marry your daughter sooner or later."

GAIL'S POV

"A...anong ginagawa mo dito???"

Lumapit muna siya sa akin at nginitian ako. Mabuti sana kung yung ngiting matamis eh, pero hindi. Ang yabang lang ng dating. Tss.

"Ano bang ginagawa mo dito?" ulit ko habang nakadipa pa. "Bakit tayo nandito? Hello! Gabi na. Baka maputukan pa tayo dito!"

Actually, kanina pa ako napapatalon sa mga paputok sa ere at lalong-lalo na sa mga stick na bumabagsak sa semento mula sa itaas. To think na nasa gitna kami ng parking lot. Geez!

"Have you gone mute? Kurt, ano na?!"

He chuckled and then pointed at the main gate. "Tara, pasok tayo?"

"At this hour?!" iritadong tanong ko. Aside from the fact that his folks dragged me here, of course I I still haven't forgotten yet what happened at the party. He was actually with his hell of secretary.

"Ayaw mong sumama? Fine," he said coolly and then started to leave.

Pinanuod ko lang siyang maglakad palapit sa gate, hanggang sa huminto siya't nilingon ako. He looked to me in disbelief.

"Hindi ka talaga susunod?"

Sumimangot ako. Kunwari pang iiwan ako, eh hindi naman pala kaya. Tss. "Ano ba kasing gagawin natin dyan sa loob? Of all places naman, Kurt!"

"Bahala ka..." And then he continued pacing towards the gate. Tumaas na ng kusa ang kilay ko. Seryoso talaga siyang iwanan ako?!

My face lit up as I saw him stopped and immediately turned to walk back to me. Hinawakan niya ang kamay ko at hinila ako.

"Ba't kasi ayaw mong sumunod??" iritadong sabi niya sabay agaw niya sa boteng hawak ko. "Don't you wanna stay with me for the night?"

At nag-drama pa. Natawa nalang ako ng mahina sa inasta niya. Mahigpit ang hawak niya sa kamay ko habang papunta kami sa main building ng E.H.U. It feels nostalgic. Maraming alaala ang bumabalik sa akin sa bawat paghakbang na tinatahak ko. Lalo na't huminto kami sa tapat ng private room.

He pressed few keys and it opened after a few seconds. Hinila niya ako't pinaupo sa couch. I can't help but to smile at the gesture. Yung paghila-hila niya sa akin, normal na gesture ng nakilala kong gangster na Kurt noon.

"Anong nginingiti-ngiti mo dyan?" 

I immediately brushed off the smile on my face as I looked to him. My cheeks beet red. "Wala!"
