in the space of a breath,
the world I've always known
was torn apart at the seams.
I landed in an off-kilter
form of reality.
hope slipped through
the cracks between my fingers.
the ground crumbled
beneath my feet.
even the ghosts
whirring beneath my eyelids
disappeared without a trace.
is this what being
completely and utterly alone
feels like?
when even the walls
won't speak
and the tears
on my cheeks
turn to stone.
this gnawing hollowness
is all that I have left now.
and I can't
bear to lose that
too.
