I stood up, just gotta get the twins. "Do you need help?" Shelby looked at me. I responded with a glare shoving past her. Do I need help? Come on she acts like I'm dying I only get beat up once a week, just kidding more like once a semester which is nine weeks.
"Wait," was what the high squeaky voice said. She moved in step with me, can this girl not take a hint? "I'm Shelby Rose, who are you?" Why don't you ask your boyfriend; is what I would of said. But did I want to waste my breath talking to her? No, no I did not.
Not bothering to even glance at Shelby I walked out the doors and onto my bike driving off to the elementary school. I picked up Jenna and James both of them irritated that I was late. I arrived at the house with the two brats who rolled their eyes at my pathetic timing.
I opened the door inhaling, walking through I exhaled smelling the familiar liquor smell that always lingered. My step-dad always gets high when he comes back from work. It's so freaking frustrating, I hated my step-dad. He didn't do a dang thing around here and it sucked. Jack ran into me eyes glued to his phone.
He briefly looked up rolling his eyes, pausing for a moment. I crossed my arms scowling while pinning the pain in the back of my mind. Oooowwww. "What happened to you?" He squinted leaning his head back as if he already knew and was seeing if I knew. "Stuff," I mumbled shoving past him to my room.
I plopped down on my bed thinking of places that would be good to dig my grave sight. I only really stayed here because of Jenna and James, if it weren't for them I'd of left when I turned ten. It's not like anyone would of cared or noticed. Huffing I stared at the blank ceiling. Hmmm.
It's a little too blank. I stood up stepping over my backpack, walking over to a desk drawer. I took out paints and brushes setting them on the desk. Sighing I thought on what to paint. A dog? Nah that's lame. The sky? Nope that's common. A family? And remind me what I don't have... yeah no thanks.
I did a once-over at the ceiling then my paints. I knew exactly what I was going to paint, in fact this would be nice to paint over the whole room. Well my afternoon's busy. Spreading out the brushes I gripped the handle and dipped it in fresh paint.
*********
I wiped the sweat from my forehead studying my accomplishment. Taking a step back I placed my hands on my hips smiling. It wasn't anything to be proud of, I wasn't that good. I mean Jenna and James think so but they're kids, they don't count.
The ceiling was an earth being held in a pair of smooth soft hands with a bracelet that said, "Life isn't a race, it's a marathon." Thought of that one all my myself, gotta be honest I was pretty happy with it. The walls were painted black with broken pieces of glass and various quotes.
One on each wall the quote painted in white cursive letters saying, "The past can either make or break you, sometimes it does both." "Love is like glass, it's fragile and easily broken." "You can't run when you haven't learned to walk." "Life is a hard path, don't make it anymore lonely then it has to be."
Those were the quotes I often wrote next to my drawings depending what the drawings vibe was. Jack walked into my room fuming with fury. I tended immediately regretting my actions. He scowled, "What happened!" He shouted gritting his teeth. I gave him a bored look, "I wanted to paint so I did."
"Not the time, Jonas. Why is Shelby Rose at our house?" Okay what? I gripped my hair shaking my head, "What?" He glared grabbing my arm and yanking me to the living room where Shelby waited outside.
He pushed me to the door and hit behind the wall, rolling my eyes I opened the door. "H-hey, I never did get your name," her blonde curls swung on her shoulder as she swayed nervously. "You followed me?" I cocked an eyebrow still glaring at the girl who now bit her lip.
"Uhh, umm, no, I -uh, yes. I wanted to make sure you were okay after what Adam did." I gave her a blank stare masking my emotions like a pro, "Yeah, fine. You done now?" Ouch that came out a little too hostile for my liking. I didn't really care though, I wanted her gone. She nodded turning on her heels, she paused zipping back around. So close!
"What's your name?" I rolled my eyes, "Jack." I slammed the door. Jack walked out in front of me, "That's not your name, Jonas." I raised my eyebrows. "And I care why?" With that I made a b-line for my room and ended the night. I didn't want to deal with his attitude.
