A Silent Echo

I am Echo.

"Mommy! ... What do we do now??" I wailed. It was chaotic, fire everywhere, and bodies of motionless cats that just could not  escape. I felt a harsh tug on the back of my scruff as I was lifted up. Curious and very shaken up, I turned my head to look at who picked me up and asked, "Do you have an idea?".  She replied, "Yes. Though  we need to get out of here." With that, we were off dashing through what looked like fiery hell. Suddenly, a branch that was on fire stopped us in our path. Mama swerved away from the flaming branch and towards the river. Hopefully we could make it to Sapphireclan's border. "Just a little while longer my kit..."Mama panted. I could tell she was near an anxious breakdown so I tried to stay silent and not be much trouble. We were so close to the border! I could see the river right up ahead. Unexpectedly, a dark shadowy figure appeared in our path. It looked to be a cat about twice the size of my mother. We quickly came to a halt as my mother put me down and told me to stay behind her. "But why mommy...? Maybe they can help us!" I asked. "They won't." She replied sternly. I gulped and stood there with my tail between my legs.

The shadowy figure came closer and the flames made their appearance more clear. It was our leader, Sparrowstar. He glanced at me then over to my mother. "Well if it isn't Heatherbreeze." Sparrow star smirked and continued. " Where's your little mate? Oh yeah that's right, I killed him." I could not believe the words I heard in that moment, my mother's legs were trembling from fear and anger. "Now it's just about the right time for you and your kit to join him" he sternly. Sparrowstar leapt towards my mother in attempt to tackle her down but she dodged it. "Go Echokit! You need to run!" She yowled as Sparrowstar bit into her back. As I trembled with ear, I ran as fast as my tiny paws could towards the river. In no time I saw my mother's sister at the border. "Help...my mama...she and Sparrowstar.." I panted heavily trying to catch my breath. "Stay here. If anyone asks, say Ebonyclaw was with you" Ebonyclaw said strictly.

The forest branches continued to crackle and burn. Dark grey almost black smoke filled the air as the fire grew closer. A patrol who seemed to have seen the smoke came running from deeper in Sapphireclan border. "Hey! What are you doing alone here next to Sapphireclan border?" One of the cats from the patrol said nervously. I turned to them and cried "Sparrowstar and my mommy are fighting! Ebonyclaw said to stay here.".With that, two of the patrol members took off into the forest and the other stayed with me. "What is your name, little kit?" She asked curiously. "Echo...I'm really worried about my mommy..Ebonyclaw should have been back already." I replied nervously. "Well, my name is Emeraldheart.", she replied.  We continued this conversation for what seemed like moons.

It felt like forever until Emeraldheart  and I spotted some cats in the distance. I jumped up excitedly and began to run towards them when the she cat next to me stopped me. "Settle down little one. I am pretty sure they will be here soon. No need to risk getting injured in the fire." Emerald heart said softly. I paced nervously until I looked up and spotted my mother now infront of me. Her once beautiful green eye was now torn to shreds, though she still had her purple eye. Heather breeze walked over to me and gently licked my ear. "It's all okay now my precious kit...We're safe." She said softly. I looked up at my mother and asked curiously, "But mama, what happened to Sparrowstar? ". She looked down at me with pain filled in her eyes. "He...He's gone now. Sparrowstar will no longer hurt or bother us anymore so no need to worry." She said as she nuzzled me gently. I looked around nervously then looked at my mother. "But mommy...Where's Ebonyclaw...? Wasn't she with us too?" I immediately regretted asking that question. My mother burst out crying as on of the other warriors stood next to her saying comforting things. They would not tell me where she was except that she was somewhere where she would be much happier. After that day, my mother and I went back to Sapphireclan then became kittypets. She was known as Emma and I was Echo. This was my kithood. This is my story. I am Echo.
