How different is the alphabet!

Each letter, a familiar sound

to the words we say to each other,

and to those we don't say out loud.

How curious is it?

How incredibly strange

is the 27th alphabet;

the one that had to change.

How queer and hieroglyphic

is the ampersand.

How strangely curvy and hard to write,

yet,

somehow majestic.

It used to be, "X, Y, Z,

and per se and"

that showed itself as "&"

and later read "ampersand".

Some may shun this quite

drastic transformation.

Say "stupid" or "dumb" or

"What an abomination!"

How brave is the ampersand

to withstand such hateful words!

It holds its grounds in armor

too sturdy for all those swords.

It has the courage to even say,

"No one is the same.

I'll never change the way I am.

I will never play your game."

And so, it is the "&",

or the ampersand,

the majestic hieroglyphic

today, still proudly stands.
