Buzz buzz
Ugh. Not my landlord again. I take my phone in hand and look at the screen until the call goes straight to voicemail.
« Shit » I mumble to myself, sitting crosslegged on my bed.
« We can't keep ignoring him » Elie says. She looks at me like we both know what she's about to say.
« You need to stop moping around and find a job, a paid internship or something Hailey. It's been over 2 months, our rent savings are drying up. » My roommate says.
"I know.. I just- I need more time. " I stated.
"We don't have any, Hail." Elie said, shaking her head.
"Fine. I'll look at paid internships tomorrow after the lecture" I say, looking down on my knees, still uncomfortable from this awkward conversation.
Elie is my best friend/ roommate. I know she understands my situation and feels for me, but I also understand how she doesn't want to end up homeless because I couldn't get a job for the last two months after it happened.
My name is Hailey Hughton, I'm a 21 year-old law student living in New-York City, the big apple, whatever you wanna call it. I live in a small apartment in Chelsea with my best friend Elie.
If you must know, I have mid-length brown hair and hazel eyes.
Since it happened, it's been hard trying to go back to school and pretending to be normal again. Having been through this kind of betrayal and tragedy messed up with me. Hopefully, I will feel better with time... Going to Columbia in an Economics program is hard enough; I didn't need more drama.
I took a year off last year to travel and discover the world; I went to Spain, which was crazy awesome, Paris, which I found gorgeous but overrated, Macedonia, and spent the rest of my year living with my cousin in London to just...live without stress.
So now instead of graduating this year, I'm graduating next year, so I have next year left, three semesters to go.
We're in February now, and college started again, and I have no motivation whatsoever.
I know this semester I NEED to get an internship at a company so when I graduate I will hopefully get a job there immediately.
Anyways.
Three weeks later
After looking for weeks for an internship, I finally succeeded!
I found an internship as a receptionist for CEO of the worldwide known company VanderSmit Entreprises. I understand being a receptionist isn't ideal but it's the only paid internship and if I assist to the meetings and show my ideas, with time, and my degree I should be able to snag a great first job at this company which is exactly the type of stability I need right now.
Plus, being an Economics student is draining enough, so at least I won't be working too hard for this job.
Satisfied with finally finding a paid internship, I made my way to the kitchen in my pajamas, to get a glass of water before going to bed.
As I walked through the small and narrow hallway of our apartment, I say Elie from the kitchen, slouching on our kitchen chair, her long black hair in a tight ponytail, eating a blueberry muffin while looking at a YouTube video on her computer.
As I marched my way through the kitchen, I got a glass out of the kitchen cabinet and poured myself a glass of water.
"So, tell me how your interview went!" Elie beamed at me.
