CHAPTER EIGHT - GUARDIAN ANGEL

Start from the beginning

klaus glances at ben before looking back at lilith, ben knew that if klaus told lilith those exact words she'd know that klaus coulf see him, and then they would have a new problem; lilith letting out the devil just so she could see ben. ben knew it was to risky, but he at least wanted her to know that he was here

klaus scoffs playfully "well duh, who wouldn't forget the little girl who'd hide behind everyone when a pin fell?"

ben really didn't know what to make of klaus' reply, would it make lilith mad? or worse upset? the last thing he'd want was to see her sad

fortunately she laughs, and it was a beautiful laugh. she'd chortle when they were younger, but she's more refined now, a lady. her laugh was now gentle and soft, and he loved it

"i wasn't that much of a coward" she says, stanfing up and brushing off the dust on her knees. ben stands up instantly, following the two inside

"i heard you got engaged again" diego's words stung ben hard, but what was he supposed to do? confess his feelings? tell her right now? he was dead, and she had moved on

he had to accept that one way or another

but lilith didn't smile at the mention of the engagement, in fact she seemed upset "yeah trevor" she didn't lighten up at the mention of his name, if anything her mood darkened

"look i know this isn't my place to tell you this, but....why him? he seems like an asshole" diego says, ben stood there in silence his gaze not leaving lilith who didn't look up

ben takes a step closer to her and his eyes widen. he sees a faint purple hue under her eye, as well as a tiny rip on her lips that was barely noticeable because of the bright red color that concealed it well

"rose, where did you get those?" ben asks

"does he hurt you?" as soon as diego's question left his mouth, lilith's head snaps up to look at diego, but to ben she was looking at him

"n-no! why would you think that?!" she exclaims, crossing her arms. but ben and diego knew better than to take her word for that

"rose..." ben trails off and tries to cup her face, but as expected it passed through her easily as she shook her head at diego and looked away

the next few back and forths diego and lilith had went by pretty quickly, he didn't even know if whether or not the subject was still about her fiancee

but his eyes never left the strong broken girl he fell in love with, he had never expected the young girl who'd recoil at the slightest bit of chaos to become somebody who'd never let anything fly over her head. but she was still lilith

strong, beautiful, broken lilith

if this was the world ben had left for lilith to venture out all alone by herself, he'd wish he was alive to share her burdens

to hug her and tell her that he loves her

but most importantly, beat the shit out of her fiancee

"lilith-" diego had brought ben back to reality, ben looks up and lilith was gone, the only trace of her being in the room was the scent of roses
