chapter four - love at first sight

joe's p.o.v:

i walked into the coffee shop, guitar in hand. the coffee shop's owner, allen, smiled at me and gave me a cheerful "hello" i was walked in. i smiled, asked him for my usual, and headed over to the performance area to start setting things up. i was adjusting the mic stand in front of me, i heard a voice call out, "joe!" i looked up from the mic stand to see lucy walking towards me with her boyfriend, rami, and her weird friend, gwilym, who went straight to the counter for a cup of coffee. i smiled at lucy, getting up to give her a hug. "thanks for coming," i said as i went in for the hug. when we got into the hug, i whispered to her, "and thanks for thinking about me and inviting him. i can't wait to meet him." i pulled away from her with a smile, did my handshake with the guys, and told them i'd see them in a few minutes. they walked past me to their seats and i couldn't help but smile at the thought of finally meeting ben. i'd finally get to see him in color, see if he really did match what i thought he'd look like. after some time had passed, the coffee shop had filled up and i recognized a few of the regulars, even saw a few new faces. i couldn't spot lucy and her group from where i was, so i figured i'd just find them when i went up. i felt someone's hand on my shoulder. it was allen, and he told me, "hey, man, it's time to go up." i turned and gave him a small smile. "thanks, man." he smiled back, wishing me luck, and i headed over to go perform. i took a deep breath, shook out the worry, and walked on. as i walked on, everyone started cheering and clapping. i waved, smiled, and greeted everyone as i went over to the stool and sat down. "hi guys! how's everyone doing today?" i got a chorus of goods and greats. i started a small conversation with everyone as a sort of warm up, and while i did, i looked around for lucy, rami, gwil, and ben. i finally
spotted lucy, and saw rami next to her, and gwil across from them. but between the couple and gwil was the most beautiful blonde boy i had ever seen. he was wearing an oversized sweater and the sleeves covered his hands and the color made his gorgeous green eyes pop. i could see a slight pink tint to his cheeks and i kinda smiled and kept talking to the crowd. i performed some of my favorites and ended with my all time favorite. "thank you all for
coming to watch! i'm gonna do one last song to wrap this up. this is love of my life, originally by queen." i poured all i had into performing that, stealing small glances at the beautiful blonde by lucy out of the corner of my eye. i finished up, everyone loudly applauding. i could see ben smiling widely out of the corner of my eye as i thanked everyone for coming. i walked back to where i had put my stuff. i felt someone tap on my shoulder, and i turned to find lucy standing behind me beaming. "joe, you did wonderful!" she exclaimed as she hugged me. i hugged her back, thanking her. she grabbed my shoulders, looked me dead in the eyes, and asked me, "so, what do you think of ben?" i stood there, thinking of everything i could say. "he seems wonderful." i said. lucy smiled at that, telling me they were seated across the room. i told her i'd be over in a second, then turned back and finished packing up my things. once that was done, i made my way across the room, receiving congratulations and hugs as i crossed, but my eyes didn't stop looking for him. ben. the boy i was sure i liked. i finally spotted them at the table and made my way there as quick as i could. i could see ben, his sweater sleeves pulled over his palms and his hands covering from his nose down on his face. it was most definitely the cutest thing i had ever seen. i pulled out the chair and sat down between rami and gwilym and across from ben. the best greeting i could get out was "hey guys." that was the best i could get out. everything else got lost in a set of green eyes that i'd never forget.
