A few seconds pass by and he feels as though he's being stared at. An unshakable feeling shot straight through him like an arrow and had it not been for that small voice in his head telling him to look, he wouldn't have.
Just a few desks away, his vision narrows on a somewhat familiar face. A girl with long, dark curls and chocolate brown eyes is watching him intensely. She was far from your run of the mill Plain Jane but hadn't exactly captivated him at first glance either. He knew her as Kyle Hughes younger sister, the same way most people did.
She had a personality made up of sunshine and kindness. One part real and ninety-nine part fantasy. If he thought back far enough, he could recall the first time ever having met her. Amelia Hughes and her brother moved to Willows Peak in 2015 just after their mother passed early that same year. Their father's job transferred him to a more quaint location and he's been traveling ever since. For the longest time, they were left under the care of a nanny, Yolanda, who retired once the siblings both reached their eighteenth birthday. Now, she lived a fairly quiet life as a daycare owner and was still very much part of their lives.
But this meant the pair were left entirely to do for themselves, with the help of a substantial amount of money from their father no doubt. Initially, school had been difficult for them both but as time passed, they got the hang of things. Or at least... Kyle did. Don't get me wrong, Amelia wasn't exactly on the bottom of the social totem pole. Though, were it not for her older brother she most likely would have been.
Kyle was the type of person you liked even if you didn't know it yet. Captain of the basketball team, he was charming and slick, especially when it came to females. He was perceived to be the most eligible bachelor in school and in a way he was. If only, any of the girls thought they'd might stand a chance with Aiden he'd probably be a lot less sought after. Still, he abuses his time in the spotlight greatly and was notorious for sleeping with some of the most pretty and clingy girls in school. Worse, the girls were way too eager to be with him to even care. In spite of all that, most people still had good things to say about him with Aiden being one of the most notable exceptions.
The two may have started off as acquaintances due to the simple and closeted fact that Aiden was his dealer. But when word got out that Kyle had a drunken hookup with Aiden's ex girlfriend, Cleo, things got real messy really fast. In fact, the two hated each other. It didn't have anything to do with jealousy because Aiden couldn't care less whom either one of them slept with. Regardless, he still considered her to be a friend. And what kind of friend would he be if he allowed anyone to run their mouth about things that should be kept private.
Unfortunately for Kyle he made an enemy out of the wrong person because if there was anything Aiden knew how to do perfectly it was observe. In doing so, you acquire knowledge about people. Their deepest fears or regrets. Any weaknesses that might roll of their tongue or be expressed through body language. It's the sort of thing that can keep someone up at night when you know they might use it against you. And since Kyle Hughes was pretty closed off emotionally there wasn't much you could take from him. But then again, what need was there for all that when he knew exactly how to hurt him.
Aiden leaned back in his seat and flashed Amelia a small smile. I guess, if you're going to be blessed with such god-like looks you might as well put them to good use. She opened her eyes faintly wider when she noticed this and turned a deep shade of red. This was a fairly new sight as he had never seen a black girl blush before.
Amelia quickly turned away and pretended to be focusing on the lecture when she could feel her entire body heating up. There was simply something about Aiden that ignited her innermost desires, even if she had yet to realize it.
