"I don't have an appetite" I mumbled as Calum held a piece of burger to my lips

"Come on pretty girl, we've gotta get that weight up, it's not going to be any easier in the next few weeks" he spoke calmly.

I whined lightly before taking the piece of burger into my own hands, trying my hardest to eat it without wrinkling my nose.

It's not that it tasted bad- I just didn't want food.

"Considering this is only day one" I mumbled, looking into the sunset outside

"I think this is going to kill me" I mumbled.

I wasn't hungry
I was still a little dizzy
I had no energy
I wanted to just cry

"No, don't even say that" Calum spoke quickly.

I looked to him, tilting my head, seeing him do the same.

"You will not die" he demanded, raising his eyebrows to me.

"Okay" I spoke quietly

"No, say it" he spoke

"You want me to say it?" I laughed lightly, seeing him nod firmly

Stubborn ass

"I will not die" I spoke, seeing him smile

"Happy?" I questioned

"Yes, but I'll be even happier if you eat another bite." He spoke, holding another piece of burger up to me.

"Where's Ash?" I asked, taking the piece of burger.

"Ash lost a patient tonight" Calum mumbled quietly.

I felt my heart drop at those words.

The thought of that honestly scared me

"He's still with the family and doing death certificates and such, he's had a long night" Calum spoke.

"How'd the patient die?" I asked quietly.

"She was an older lady, around seventy nine, she had Lymphoma cancer, which is one of the most aggressive cancers, she passed away during one of her chemo treatments while she was napping- she went peacefully" He spoke slowly, making sure I didn't react negatively to what he was telling me.

"Is Ash okay?" I asked.

"It's always upsetting when we lose a patient." Calum spoke, moving closer to me, making me scoot over, patting the bed for him to sit with me.

"We grow bonds with our patients- especially the younger ones." Calum spoke slow.

"Ash is probably feeling a lot of self blame- he's probably reading over charts, criticizing himself and trying to figure out what he could've done different." He continued.

"But if she was ready to go- nothing would've stopped her" I mumbled out, feeling his arm go around my shoulder.

"Yeah- and he knows that" Calum mumbled, leaning his head on top of my own.

"It's just hard for us to accept"
