Staring at myself, looking at the imperfect parts of my skin, I notice the dark, rose red parts of my skin where pimples are trying to appear, the dark bags under my eyes which have appeared from lack of sleep and constant stress. I start to apply my makeup the way my mother had once taught me, gentle strokes and never to be bold.
Always stay beautiful even on days you feel ugly
My mother had always taught me things, things to make me the perfect girl, the girl everyone wanted but never could have. Once I finished with my makeup, I walked over to my clothes that I had set out before I had a shower, a short lavender summer dress, which showed enough skin to be noticed but not be a whore. The dress fit me like a glove and made my hair seem darker and my skin more olive toned, I then sprayed myself with my daisy scented perfume.
Never smell unclean, smell like a flower
Sliding on my sandals, I looked at myself in the mirror, I didn’t have dark bags anymore and the red dots on my skin were gone. I pretend to smile, to see if it still looked real. My lips were now a nude pink and my lashes now black and long; my eye lids now looked golden like the sunset at a beach. My hair always had a natural wave to it and my mother loved it, she hated it when we had to go to the hairdressers for a trim, of fear of them cutting it too short, it reach my middle of my back.
Pretend to love yourself guys never find being self-conscious a turn on
Leaving my bedroom I walked down the hallway and towards the front door, grabbing a small floral bag, I placed my phone, my purse and proceeded to leave the house, I locked the door and placed the keys in to my bag as well. Walking down the footpath, I held my head high and with a fake smile planted on my face.
Hold yourself high and always pretend to be happy.
‘’Are you listening to me?’’ I hear my mother snap me out of my thoughts of playing on the oval near the park down the road with Ali.
‘’yes mother,’’ I reply watching her apply her makeup,
‘’no man will ever love you if you aren’t perfect, you must Always stay beautiful even on days you feel ugly, Never smell unclean, smell like a flower, Pretend to love yourself guys never find being self-conscious a turn on and hold yourself high and I mean it always be happy,’’ she says as her voice cracks, looking at her I notice her eyes are damp as if she was about to cry. At that moment my father walked in to the bedroom, wearing his black suit and tie, my mother instantly put a smile on her face, but I noticed the red lipstick on his lips at the same time she did as well, he smiled back and walked in to the bathroom. Once the door shut, I heard my mother whisper,
“You’ll never get loved for being imperfect,’’
