The warm autumn breeze blew through my hair as I engulfed a large amount of air. I let my eyes shut momentarily, my legs dangling off of the edge of the bridge, as I melted into my surroundings. I listened to the birds chirping, the leaves rustling. The slight echo of the water from the creek bumping against a rock every now and then. It all felt just right.
And amidst the blend of nature's orchestra a sound pierced the atmosphere. It was a Melody. Much different from that of nature but nonetheless not disturbing. It blended in perfect harmony with the tunes of my surroundings, adding to the peacefulness. The melody was deep yet full of happiness. I soon realised that it was a voice. Someone was singing.
I slowly opened my eyes, taking a look around me. My eyes landed on a certain figure sat on the edge of the bridge, just as I was. It occurred to me that he was unaware of my presence. I questioned my occurrence. Had he arrived before me? If so, I had failed to notice him.
That was rather surprising, considering that the individual sitting just a few feet away from me was not the type to lack in looks. His simplicity rendered elegence. He sat in a pair of trousers and a sweater which was definitely too big for him. His head was topped with a beret from which a few of his brown bangs we're poking out. He wore round rimmed glasses and his hands were littered in simple silver rings. On further observing his choice of jewelry, i noticed that he wore a ring on all fingers except for his ring finger.
I watched as his lips moved, spilling out his hypnotizing melodies. He seemed relaxed, as if he had not a single care in the world. This intrigued me. That how even after being able to remain so calm, I couldn't manage to feel a fraction of relief for myself. I guess that's just how the world works. Everyone here can hide their hardship with a small smile.
Silence captivated my mind. I looked around. Everything had gone quiet. I glanced at the man to find him looking right at me. He locked his gaze into mine, in a way as if he was trying to read and understand me. His gaze wasn't creepy, it was beckoning. It made me want to go to him. To follow him to the edge of the earth, just to look at those eyes. The warm smile on his face seemed even more welcoming.
He looked like he was in his early twenties, a character from some cliche romance novel in real life. He glanced at his watch and gave me an apologetic look before leaving the bridge. It made me wonder if he was apologizing for ending our encounter or whatever this had been.
I got up off the bridge and began walking towards the city. I was sure looking forward to see this man again.
