SandWings are hatched with an underdeveloped and less effective (but not ineffective) tail barb. Their tail barb develops with age, which is interesting because dragons' growth/development doesn't usually stop with age. If the same thing applies to tail barbs, this could mean that older SandWings are more dangerous since they can inject more venom into a wound with a venom sac that simply doesn't stop growing.
