"You're avoiding me." It wasn't a question. It was a statement. I looked away. "You're doing it now, too. Tell me, Evelyn, what did I do?"
"...Nothing." I said after a few moments of hesitation.
"Well, I need to talk to you." He said, surprizing me. I looked right into his eyes; something I hadn't done in a long time. Or at least the past few days.
"Why do you need to talk to me? And why do you /only/ talk to me?" I asked bluntly, looking at him quizically. What I said was true; the only other people I ever saw Chance speaking with was his sister, and the teachers.
He was quiet for a while, and I was afraid he wasn't going to say anything at all. But then he lifted his head. "I have my reasons." He said softly.
"Well, fine. But I'm going to lunch now. 'Later." I said turning away.
"...Mind if I join you?" He startled me by saying. When I turned around, his grey eyes told me he was serious.
"I...er...uh, sure." I said weakly. I don't know how I managed to say anything, but I did. We walked in silence, neither really knowing what to say. For lunch, I grabbed a bag of potato chips and a cherry coke from my locker. I don't trust the cafeteria food, so I bring my own junk food. At least I can trust it to be unhealthy.
And I was right to do so. In the cafeteria, there were serving 6-meat lasgna. I wondered what all the varieties of meat would be, and when I spotted somebody with a big trayful, I gagged. Chance passed on lunch, simply sitting next to me on the bench I always sit on. Myles sat accross from me, eyeing Chance warily, and Val took the seat next to me. Karen, Jared, and Desuna were sitting with a few of their other friends, Desu flirting with about ever guy in the vacinity. When she spotted Chance, her eyes grew wide. And when she spotted /me/ sitting next to him, they nearly bugged out of their sockets. I waved to her half-heartedly, then shrugged. We communicated like that for a few minutes, then I mouthed to her 'Come over here'. She practically tripped with how fast she moved. In seconds, she was sitting next to Myles, doing her typical flirty hair flick, and I smiled. Chance looked at me like I had just grown two heads, but I ignored him and introduced Desu to Chance.
"Desu, meet Chance. Chance, meet Desuna Yari." I smiled warmly to Desu, and gave Chance a hard, cold stare. He hadn't even glanced at her after the hair-flick-thing.
"What?" He finally asked, after I didn't stop glaring at him.
"Well, make her feel welcome, you ass!" I said incredulously. Desuna gasped, and I ignored her aswell. Chance seemed at a loss, and I did a mental facepalm. I was also aware of Myles grinning toothily at me.
"Oh, she's always like that. Insulting, isn't she?" Desuna said nervously, in a voice that sounded like she was apologizing for me.
"Very." He said simply. After a few minutes of staring at his feet, he looked up at Desu with a smile on his face. "Sorry. I just have a lot on my mind, you know?" He said, grinning crookedly. Again.
Then...Well, then the bell rang.

We all split up, Desu wandering off with Jared again, Karen never far behind, while Myles, Chance, Val, and I dispersed. I had next period with Valencia(Physics), and so we went off together.
Physics was boring. The teacher got mad at me and Val for talking too much, and sent Valencia to sit in the back of the class once I started throwing paper airplanes. Phooey.
