Morning came too soon for my liking. The light, even behind my lids, burn my eyes when I finally register that I am awake.

“Tacia, we got to get a move on.” Azjin says as she continuously shakes my shoulder. Most would groan, but I was use to waking up without enough sleep. Even so, I groan a little bit.

“I know, but you said.-”

“I know what I said. Thank you, Azjin.” I say softly to her as I open my eyes, only to close them again when I get the full effect of the sun. One hand over my eyes, and the other on the ground, I sit up. Pain rushes through my body, reminding me too well what happened yesterday. Especially my nagging left leg. “Could you please get me some jerky?”

“Certainly. Water?”

“That would be wonderful.” I reply with a smile. Eventually, I remove my hand from my eyes and accept the food. Not exactly breakfast, but it will do.

“Who do you think will take care of Niam and Naron?” Azjin asks thoughtfully as she takes a swig of the flask before handing it to me.

“Not sure. Catyn said she would.” I reply, hearing Catyn's scream in me head. I force myself not to flinch, not wanting to worry Azjin.

“How could she? Wasn't she a little old?” I choose to ignore her speaking in past tense.

“That is what I told her. But she promised me that her charms would change their mind.” I shake my head. A bit cocky considering she was a slave.

Azjin just shrugs. “You were right earlier. We should get moving.” I say softly. She nods and makes her way to the still sleeping horse. I cock my head, seeing how she is walking. Her stiffness makes me dread standing up. However, with a lot of effort, I am on my two feet wincing.

“How do we wake him?” Azjin asks, standing by the horse.

I glance over my shoulder that now has my bag over it. I frown, unsure myself. “I don't know.” I walk around him while I think. I never have cared for horses, so I don't know what would be the smartest and what would be the dumbest way to end his slumber.

After circling him for a long while, I give up. “Stand back.” I order Azjin, and she obeys without hesitation. I pick up the blanket, and without further prolonging, I slap it back on his back. Not to my surprise, the horse jolts awake.

“There, there.” I coo, doing my best to calm him. I gently stroke him, and offer him a carrot I just so happened to find in my bag. Warily, Zalk smells it, studying me closely with his eyes. Too hungry to resist, he takes it and munches on it happily. “Good.” I say smoothly to him. Now to get the reigns on him.

I some how knew he wouldn't be eager to take it, but I proved to be more stubborn than him when he finally took the bit. Victory was mine.

“How do you know so much about horses?” Azjin asks, waiting on me to lift her up.

“Well,” I start, pushing her up on top right on the blanket. “I don't really know that much. My friend Dantem told me enough to where I could escape.” I pause for a second, breathing. Her weight didn't prove easy on my legs. Specifically my left.
