Selene was not having a good day. Her brother was absent and her mother wasn't home to find him, as usual. She picked up her phone and dialed his number, after the third ring he picked up.
"Yeah?", Sol's annoyed voice rang from the phone,
"Where are you? Mom will be home any minute, how upset will she be if you are not here when she gets home after a two month deployment?" Selene said in a angry rant,
"I am at the library working on AP Chem homework and AP Calc, shit what time is it?!" He said frantically,
"Sol, its six thirty. Get your punk ass home before mom skins you." She seethed, luckily, the library was only about 10 minutes away.
"See ya at home Lene," Sol spat out quickly hanging up,
Groaning she put her phone back in her pocket, flopping down on her bed. She stared at the ceiling, her curly auburn hair splayed around her. She heard a beep, their dinner that she had entirely forgot!
She jumped off her bed and down the stairs to the kitchen. Nearly slipping while she ran across the tile in socks, she put on oven mitts and opened the oven door. The roast's savory aroma wafted out,
"Mmmm.." she hummed,
Selene then placed it down on the stove to cool, today was her birthday. February 18th, she was turning 16. Her mother was coming home from her most recent deployment. They hadn't seen her in two months, she had been piloting and engineering in Iraq.
She heard the front door slam open, and saw Sol dash through the door. A box in his hands, he placed it on the counter. She reached for it but Sol swatted at her hand.
"You can't see it until after dinner sis," He said,
Selene groaned, she hated secrets.
"If it's a cake I'm leaving because we said we were gonna get one tomorrow!" She complained,
A false hurt look befell her brother's features,
"You are so ungrateful,"
Selene rolled her eyes, shoving Sol.
"Bro, your birthday is tomorrow, we were gonna wait." She laughed,
"What type of twin would I be if I didn't know you are jealous we're partying on my birthday," He teased,
Selene and Sol are twins. Selene was born on February 18th at 11:50pm, but Sol was born on 12:01 am Feburary 19th. So, they're twins that were born of separate days.
Selene laughed and told Sol to set the table as she prepared the sides and placed them on the island. A few minutes went by and they heard the front door open, they both hurriedly ran to the door.
"Lene? Sol? Are any yall home?" Their mother's voice rang, their mother was Lieutenant Bella Demasi an accomplished pilot and engineer in the Air Force.
Selene launched herself at her mother, causing her to drop her bags and hug her back.
Her mother pushed Selene to arms length, caressing he face with her right hand,
"How is my darling moon? My little girl is now 16, oh how the years have gone by." Bella spoke, tears welling in both thier eyes.
"I'm doing great momma," Selene replied.
She kissed Selene on her forehead.
"What am I chopped liver?" Sol called, a hint of jealously in his voice.
"Oh my little sun! How could I forget about you? Tomorrow you're turning what? Four?" Their mother teased, reaching up to ruffle his auburn hair,
Sol swatted her hand away, laughing. He hugged Bella,
"I missed you mom," He said into her curly bronze hair,
She hugged him back, patting his back,
"I missed you too baby, I am sorry I can't always be here. But, I gotta support you two and this beautiful house," She then proceeded to hold him at arms length as well, inspecting his features.
"You look so much like your father," She whispered, "We were about your age when we met, but that's in the past. Let's eat!" She patted his face releasing him and walking into the kitchen.
The twins followed her, they sat and said grace, making sure to sign themselves afterward. Selene just noticed her mother looked worse for wear at the moment, her bronze hair with a small streak of grey. Her eyes looked tired and lonely, but she looked at the both of them with such love. Unconsciously she began to fiddle with her moon necklace, staring off into space. All of a sudden she felt Sol nudge her with his shoulder. She snapped back to reality, her mother looking worried,
"What?" Selene asked,
"Mom just asked what happened while she was gone," Sol said, rolling his eyes,
"Oh! Well, I have As in all of my classes but math, volleyball is great, shotput is great, but I've been having these weird dreams so I'm working on a painting of a dream I had." Selene mused,
Sol scoffed, earning a warning glare from their mother.
"Lovely, I want to see it after dinner if your brother can handle being civil," She warned, Sol pouted,
"Anyway, how is everything going with you Sol?" Their mother asked,
"Well ACE Team is going great, I got into Math National Honors Society, and I am acing all of my classes, even math." He sent a smug look to Selene and she just stuck her tongue out, his mother laughed.
"My little genius," She mused,
"Mom!" He dragged, "I'm not little anymore, I am 6'3!"
Their mother got up to place their plates in the sink,
"Solstice Anthony Demasi, no matter how tall you get I will still put your punk ass in time out." She retorted, Selene laughed, Bella looked at her,
"I'll put your punk ass in time out too," She tried to keep a straight face but burst into laughter, "Okay, since we are apparently done, let's have cake!"
Sol walked over to the box he brought in inside was a waxing moon cake and a star cake, he placed both on the table. Their mother stuck in the 16 candles, videotaping herself singing them happy birthday. They then blew them out, wishing for the same thing,
"I wish mom could stay forever,"

Hành động#306- myth A set of twins find out that their mother isn't who they think she is. That their father isn't dead, that demons and monsters are more than myth. That something is after them, what they hadn't even known they were running from. Thank you...
