"Now boarding Delta flight 302 to London, England"
"Well I guess this means I have to go now," I said getting up.
"Be safe," my mom said wrapping her arms around me one last time, "and remember to call me immediately after you land. Your father will be at the airport to pick you up. I love you so much and will see you in two weeks." She kissed my forehead before leaving to go to her own terminal.
I glanced at the ticket in my hand, first class, New York to London. This was going to be the first time I saw my dad in almost two years. My mom was going to Phoenix for some work related thing and she thought this would be a great time for me to go visit my father who lives in London.
I slowly made my way up through the line to board the plane and handed the lady my ticket.
"Thank you, have a nice flight. Next." I took back my ticket stub shoving it into a random pocket in my back pack and made my way down the long corridor connecting the plane to airport. This place always gave me the creeps, I don't know why. The low ceiling and the dreary gray walls, mixed with the roar of the plane's engines give it an ominous felling.
I entered the Boeing 747 and a flight attendant led me up a stair case taking me to the first class cabin. I sat down in my pod-like seat and looked around. There weren't very many people in first class, or they just might have not come yet.
After just about everyone had boarded the plane a group of about ten people came up to first class. The group consisted of mainly teenage boys, which was kind of strange, and a few very buff men dressed in black. I wonder if they are famous. I never really pay attention to who's popular right now so I wouldn't know maybe I'll send a picture of them to my best friend Makayla, if they are any one famous she would know.
A few minutes later a flight attendant went up to the front of the cabin for the flight safety presentation. I could practically quote the entire thing by memory now. I have flown so many times between visiting my dad who lives in a different country every month and my mom's crazy job that takes her all over the country. My parents got divorced when I was five and my mom won full custody of me and my dad moved to France.
My dad is the inventor of super glue, and is therefore crazy rich. A few years after the divorce, he retired and took his millions and decided to travel the world. Sometimes I wish that I lived with my dad and was able to travel with him, but no he couldn't be bothered to deal with me so he handed me off to my mom and only sees me every couple of years.
I felt the plane lurch forward as it made its way to the runway. Many people say they hate the take offs and landings, but they are my favorite part. I love the butterflies you get in your stomach and the adrenaline pumping through your vanes as you fly across the pavement at 100s of miles an hour. I have never been afraid of flying I love it, and have always wanted to learn how to pilot one someday.
I put my headphones in and close my eyes preparing to sleep the rest of this long flight.
I was abruptly awoken by a loud scream. I quickly sat upright in my seat feeling the plane shudder underneath me. Turbulence never really bothered me; in fact I always found it kind of fun like you were on some sort of rollercoaster in the sky. But as I looked out the window and saw the black sky illuminated by constant flashes of lightning and the rain slamming against the window I knew we were in for a long flight.
The ruff turbulence continued on never taking a break, and for the first time I was worried this plane would not get us to our destination. All of a sudden lightning struck one of the engines causing it to burst into flames. The cabin was filled with terrified screams.
"Hello this is your captain speaking," you could hear the fear in his voice as he tried to calm the passengers; "due to an engine failure we are going to have to make an emergency landing in the water." A series of scared cries followed this.
I felt the plane lurch starting to go downward towards the churning sea below us. Tears started to form in my eyes I have never been this scared before in my life.
"Please brace for impact," came the captain's voice over the speaker once more.
I slowly put my head between my knees as we were instructed to do. Across the aisle I heard one of the boys mumble "Put your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye." I gave a nervous laugh and looked over too see the boy give me a small smile, I could tell he was terrified too. I saw the small blonde boy beside him mumbling something about Nandos and rocking back and forth in his seat.
I glanced out of my window and saw the sea rapidly approaching. I squeezed my eyes closed as I felt the plane hit the water.
