Chapter Five.

I woke for school the next morning and there was still sleep in my eyes. I rubbed my hands across my eyes and yawned. I glanced at the time on my phone and jumped out of bed. It was six forty in the morning and school started at seven fifteen. I had about a ten-minute drive to get to the school so that left me with very little time to get ready.

I hurried to my closet and pulled out a pair of gray sweatpants and a black tee-shirt. I dressed quickly and then threw on a pair of shoes. Making my way into the bathroom, I pulled out my toothbrush and began brushing my teeth.

I ran a brush through my hair and then pulled it up into a messy bun. By the time I had finished, it was time to go. I walked down the stairs and grabbed my keys off the table. My mom had already left for work again, her commute being forty-five minutes long. Sometimes I wondered how I would get to school if I didn't have my own car. My mom couldn't take me, she worked too much.

I climbed into my car and backed out of the driveway. The roads in my neighborhood were clear this early in the morning and you could hear nothing but the sound of my car driving through the streets. When I made it to the main road that's when the traffic seemed to appear. Cars were honking and flying down the paved street. I looked both ways and drove to the middle lane of the road. Glancing over my shoulder, I drove into one of the lanes and started my way towards the school.

The drive to the school was quick. Before I knew it I was pulling into the parking lot and parking in one of the spots near the back. I got out of my vehicle and threw my book bag over my shoulder. As I was making my way to the double doors I heard someone call my name.

I turned to look and saw Alex and Kaden walking together. They both waved and I gave them a small wave back. They motioned for me to come over and hesitantly I did. They were laughing about something as I came up to them.

"Hey, you guys." I greeted them and shifted my bag that was on one shoulder. We started up the steps of the school.

"Hey Kaylee, what's your number?" Alex asked and I smiled. I listed my phone number off and Alex typed it into his phone as we continued to walk. I didn't mind giving my phone number to Alex, I felt like he was a good guy.

"Sent you a text. That's my number." I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket and pulled it out. I went to the message and then saved his phone number to my contacts.

"Saved it," I replied and Alex nodded. Kaden walked silently with us and I realized that I had almost forgotten he was there. That made me feel slightly guilty so I spoke:

"What's your number Kaden? I'll put it in my phone." Kaden looked surprised that I had asked for his number. Maybe he had thought I wouldn't want it. Not that I really did, but still. He gave me his phone number and I saved it to my contacts before sending him a text.

He pulled his phone out and I watched as he saved the number too. We stopped walking when I reached my locker. I put in the combination and then slammed my fist into it. It popped open just like it had yesterday. I set my book bag into the locker after pulling out my binder for the first class.

I glanced up at the clock and sighed. I needed to get to class – now. I said my goodbyes to them and hurried to the first class of the day. When I made it to the room I had a minute to spare. I made my way to the back of the classroom and sat down at the same desk I had sat in yesterday.

The bell rang and the students came into the classroom again. It looked like being late was an everyday thing for the students here. Not for me, I liked being on time for classes – even if I didn't like the class. Ian made his way to the back where I was sitting and sat at the desk next to mine.

"Hey, Kaylee." he smirked as he said those words and I frowned at him. Why was he smirking? I gave him a slight nod.

"Hey." Ian went to speak again but the teacher spoke first.

"Everyone pass your homework up to the front." I fished my homework out of my binder and passed it to the person in front of me. I watched as the teacher collected the homework from each row of students. My phone vibrated in my pocket and I pulled it out. I glanced down at it, it was a text from Kaden.

Hey, what are you doing?

I glanced up at the teacher before typing back. In history, how about you?

I waited for a couple of moments and felt the vibration again. I glanced down at it and a small smile formed on my face at his reply.

In math class. He had sent a frowning face with the text. What class do you have next?

I typed back quickly in hopes that the teacher wouldn't see me. English with Mr. Meyers.

I watched the dots on the screen and waited for his reply. He seemed to take a long time with it, so I wondered if he had got caught texting. My phone vibrated in my hand and I unlocked it to view the message.

Me too. I didn't realize you were in the same English class as me.

To be quite honest, I hadn't either. I had been shocked when I had seen Kaden at lunch. To think, he was in one of my classes the whole time and I didn't even realize.

Cool, I'll see you in English then. I replied and then glanced up. The teacher had written several sentences on the board that we were supposed to take down in our notes. I quickly put my phone in my back pocket and started scribbling down the notes.

History was boring but I had a feeling that if Kaden or Alex had anything to do with it, the day would be far from boring. That thought brought a smile to my face and I glanced at Ian. He was watching me scribble notes down and was sitting there with not even a pencil out.

I rolled my eyes at him and pointed at the board. He gave me another smirk and looked away. Sometimes Ian gave me the creeps.
