Amber Knight, the new girl in town and school whose your typical definition of a nerd; constantly carrying a book and insanely smart. The move to Saint Louis, Missouri wasn't very hard on her like most would think. It was her idea in fact. Lets say...
I arrived at Saint Louis right at 10. I stopped at a Starbucks to grab a coffee before I went to my Aunt's apartment. yeah, I'm going to be staying with my Aunt for a few days so I can get on my feet. I park the car and hop out, shuffling my way towards the door, stiff from sitting for two hours straight. A bell rings as I hope the door, signaling my entrance into the little cafe. As I made my way to the counter, I couldn't help but compare it to my Aunt Maggys cafe. Personally, I like Maggys better since it had a homey feel, but everyone I guess prefers something different.
"Welcome to Starbucks, what can I get for you?" The blonde teenage girl asked as I stopped in front of her. with a half smile, I replied:
"I'll take a Caramel Macchiato Grande please."
"Anything else?" She inquired.
"Nah that's all."
"Okay, what should I put for the name Miss?"
"Amber please," I was feeling so done with socializing today.
"Okay! Coming right up!" Happily, she walked off to start making my order. I mentally groaned at the fact people can be so cheery at 10:20 in the morning. I waited about five minutes until my name was called. Relieved I made my way to the counter and took my drink with a smile at the barista. I quickly made my way back out of Starbucks and into my car. Shooting a quick text to Maggy telling her I was about 25 minutes away. Placing my cup in the cup holder, I started my car back up and hooked my phone up to it. Going to Spotify, I started playing heavy Dirty Soul by Twenty One Pilots(song above). Pulling out of the parking lot, I hummed along enjoying my time alone for the next little bit.
***25 minutes later
As soon as I pulled up into my Aunts driveway and exited my car, I was almost toppled over by a 4'11 old lady aka my Aunt.
"Amber! I missed you so much! Oh, you've grown so much since the last time I saw you!" Exclaimed Maggy, the petite woman crushing me with a hug.
"Maggy its only been a few months." I tease chuckling slightly.
"Oh hush, I'm allowed to miss my niece that's almost 18!" Maggy retorted back to me, lightly hitting my arm. Chuckling more, I walked to the trunk of my black Subaru Legacy. Pulling out my suitcases and duffle bag, I hand Maggy one of the suitcases as I close the trunk. heading towards the house we make small talk. Maggy opened the door and I was hit with the smell of her famous chocolate chip cookies. I squealed in excitement as I bolted inside,
"You made your cookies Anuty!?" Laughing at my childness she nods her head, setting my stuff by the front door. I grab a cookie and stuff it into my mouth, moaning as the flavors engulf my mouth. After two more cookies being stuffed in my mouth, I headed back into the living room where I saw Maggy sitting on the couch sipping some lemonade.
"I'm going to bring my stuff to my room and possibly go out and explore," I say over my shoulder as I grab and bring my stuff to the bedroom I'm going to temporarily stay in for the next few days.
"Be careful and be sure to text your mother and father that you made it safely," she yelled after me.
"Yes, Maggy!" Entering into the bedroom, I glance around quickly, noticing the theme is dark browns and tan colors.
"I can work with this for a few days," I mutter under my breath. Sitting on the floor, I unpack a few of my clothes and put them into drawers. Switching to my duffle bag, I take out a sketchbook, pencils, and watercolor paints. Stuffing them into a small bag, I exit my room and head out the door, sending a quick text to my mom saying I had arrived safely. Hopping back into my car, I head to the center of town and drive around for a while. Noticing all the teenage kids fooling around, I roll my eyes, having a feeling this school will be just like my last one. I continued to drive for half an hour more before I came across a lake. Parking my car I get out and sit close to the water, taking out my thing in the process. I begin to sketch out the lake and surrounding trees getting lost in the drawing. Feeling satisfied with the sketch, I begin to paint feeling myself get lost even more in each delicate stroke. About an hour later I'm finally finished and take in the whole thing, comparing it the actual thing. Putting my things back into my bag, I head back to my car ready to go back home to Maggy.
"I think that is the most calm I have felt in a while.." I murmured to no one in particular. At that moment as I started to head back towards Maggy's house, I knew that the lake would become my favorite spot.
Authors Note:
Hey guys! Soo the second chapter was a bit harder for me to write since my friends decided to face time me in the middle of it.. they are VERY distracting people, but I must say they help with my indecisiveness. Anywho, I hoped you guys liked the chapter and I'll update whenever I can, may be hard though since school is a thing currently. Kay, Love Y'all!
