it's simple to think
if something's not true
or if it doesn't affect you directly
then it doesn't hurt
like a knife in the heart
or a stab in the back
a lie comes out quickly,
instantly and is
usually well received if the
gods are on your side and
the odds are in your favor
but what if it is not
a lie that slips between
your lips but
a whisper of truth
that cannot be accepted?
and what if there are multiple truths
and different sides
and different stories
but no one will take your
worries because of
a lie
or a past transgression
or your race
or your gender
so you have to surrender
yourself to the harsh
light of jury
only for them to find you guilty
on their own terms
