Chapter four

Dana's P.O.V.

"I think you should hang out with me, and Georgia today. Probably Tom too, considering that he and Georgia are 'in love.'" We were walking down the hall, and Ali was upbeat and full of hope. Hope, that I was about to destroy.

I gave her a look. "Yeah, sure." I said with heavy sarcasm.

She punched me in the arm playfully, and then yelped. She keeps forgetting that I have a lot harder skin now...

She shook her hand, to try to get the pain away. "God, that's like punching a rock."

I laughed without humour. "Tell me about it."

"Back to the topic of conversation. Why don't you want to hang out with us? It'll be just like old times. You know...before you cheated on...him." She smirked.

I sighed, and grew tired of having to explain this to her. "I'm a-" I lowered my voice, "vampire. They're terrified of me."

Ali bit the inside of her cheek, and I smelled blood. It still shocked me that I could do that. "They're not terrified of you. Well, maybe Tom is...but that shouldn't matter. Tom is terrified of me!" She chuckled, and I could see that her teasing of dorky Tom hadn't let up a bit.

"I know."

"But, Georgia is different. She may be a little intimated by you, after everything that happened with Lauren, the first vampire that she actually knew, she has a reason to be a little frightened of all vampires. But Dana," She smiled at me. "You didn't really see her face when she first saw Sabrina step into view at that warehouse. She thought that Sabrina was dead, and then there she was. She didn't care that she was a vampire, she was just glad to have her back."

I couldn't help but smile at that. "Yeah, I guess."

Ali continued on, "And seeing Georgia's face when you were...stabbed, was horrible. You didn't see it, you were too busy lying on the ground in anguish, but I did. Trust me Dana, Georgia is just happy that you are alive."

I couldn't bring myself to agree. "If you knew..." I whispered.

"What?"

I shook my head. "Nothing. I said nothing."

"No!" I hissed to Ali, but it was too late. She had already rang the doorbell to Georgia's four-bedroom, white picket fence, house.

She rolled her eyes. "It'll be fine. This will be a nice surprise for Georgia and Tom."

My eyes widened in horror. "A surprise? You mean they don't know?!" I whisper-shouted, but it was too late...again. I could hear someone unlocking the door, and soon it creaked open to reveal the face of sandy coloured hair Tom.

His eyes were bored as he saw Ali, but as soon as he laid eyes on me, his eyes went so wide, and his mouth dropped. His glasses looked as if they would fall off, because his head was tilted downwards.

"Wha-oh god..." He tried to compose himself, to speak more clearly. "Wow! Uh, Dana...this is a great...surprise!" As he said the last word, he glared at Ali accusingly.

I touched his shoulder to try and comfort him automatically, but he moved away. I sighed. "Tom, I know this is a surprise to have me here, but all I want is for things to go back to normal."

I don't know why he was acting so shocked to see me. He saw me at school all the time. Just probably the shock of actually hearing my voice, and talking to me.

"Uh..." His voice trailed off. He was just too confused and scared right now.

Ali rolled her eyes. "Aren't you going to invite her in? You know vampires can't get in without an invite." She said this in all seriousness of an actor, and I glared at her.

Tom gaped. He looked at me, and then at Ali. He said nothing.

I rolled my eyes. "She's kidding. I don't need an invite." To prove my point, I pushed past him, and into the familiar house that I've been absent of for a while.

Not waiting for the slow humans, I immediately found the staircase, and marched up then to Georgia's room.

I could hear the others racing up to catch up with me, but I was too fast. In a matter of one second, I had opened the door to the room, and was standing in the doorway.

She didn't look up right away. She probably thought it was Ali. But when I spoke, I could feel the chilliness. "Hey, Georgia."

She was on her computer, and I heard her stop breathing. She gulped, and then slowly turned towards me.

Her eyes darted across my face, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of hatred, and pure fear.

Seeing that face, I looked down to the floor. "Maybe I'll just go."

And then I heard something else, Georgia had gotten up out of her desk chair and had crossed over to me. "Don't you dare."

I looked up, and faced a girl with long wavy blond hair, blue eyes, and the biggest smile.

I was confused. "What?"

Ali and Tom had made it to the room by now, and Ali was absolutely beaming with pride. She knew it would turn out like this.

"I've missed you!" Georgia threw her arms around me in a hug.

I urged away from the touch. I didn't mean too, I just...it was just instinct. "But...you've barely talked to me since..." I let my voice trail off. She knew what I meant.

Georgia shook her head. "No. I would never. I just thought that you wouldn't want to be around me now. Considering what happened with Vincent, I thought that you would want to be away from...humans, I guess." She shrugged sheepishly.

I wanted to shout, 'How could you be so stupid!? You're one of my best friends!' But of course I didn't, there was something else I wanted to ask. "Why did you look like you hated me, just when I walked in?"

I was preparing myself for a horrible rejection, but it never came. "Oh. Well, Dana...you look really different. At first, I thought you were Lauren."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "How? I look nothing like her!"

Tom stepped forward. "Oh, yes you do." The way he said it, was almost an insult.

I frowned. "No, no!" Georgia gasped. And then glared at Tom. "What I meant, was that you have the same beauty that she had. Don't take it personally; all vampires have that hypnotic glow."

I wasn't completely satisfied with the answer, but it was good enough. I smiled. "We have a lot to catch up on, don't we?"

Georgia nodded, and then frowned. "There's something I have to ask." I nodded for her to go on. "Have you heard from Vincent and Sabrina?"

I pursed my lips, it was a bit uncomfortable to talk about. And I mean literally, their was a pain everytime I thought of my best friend, because the bond between us hurt when we were apart. So creepy, I know.

"Well," I moved over to the bed, and sat down. "they're kind of on a trip around the world right now." Seeing their shocked faces, I could tell that no one had told them.

"She never told us." Ali said quietly.

I sighed, "She didn't want to worry you. She's fine. She'll keep in touch. She promised to keep the trip under a year." I smiled grimly.

Georgia rubbed her temples. "Any other news?" She said this suspiciously, and I could tell she was thinking about Lauren.

I gave her a look. "No. And if there was, Vincent would tell me."
