I was standing in front of a huge beautiful house. It was a new city. New people. I was finally attending the university I had always dreamt of. I turned around to see my best friend Park Jimin, taking out the luggage from the taxi and I reached back to help him.
"Oh. Somebody's got manners." He laughed and I hit the back of my hand on his stomach.
"Do we really have to stay here?" I asked him looking at the house.
"Yah stop whining. The house looks good to me." We carried the bags towards the doorstep after we paid the driver.
Of course the house looked gorgeous. But I didn't want to stay as a paying guest in my mom's friend's boarding house. I wanted to stay in the university dorm. It looked amazing and obviously it was going to be much more fun. But my mother had some other plans for me. Apparently she didn't trust anybody except her good old friend.
Jimin rang the doorbell and the door opened revealing Mrs. Yang. We greeted her and she welcomed us inside.
A young boy came from behind her. "Are they here, mom?" He smiled wide on seeing us.
"Jeongin?" Jimin went to hug him. "You've changed a lot. Oh! You got braces?" Jimin said wrapping his arm around his shoulder.
"You've become tall" I sneaked a glance at Jimin and snickered "unlike somebody."
I received a glare in return but I turned back to Jeongin. "How are you?" I punched his arm playfully.
"I'm good." He was still smiling and I could tell that he was really happy to see us. The three of us were neighbors back in Busan. Jeongin was younger than us so we always treated him like our little brother but that didn't stop him from playing pranks on me with Jimin.
"How is everyone at home, Saemi? What about your parents Jimin?" Mrs. Yang asked us as we sat on the sofa inside.
"Everyone's good." Jimin and I said.
"Jeongin. Show them the rooms. You both, come downstairs for dinner after you freshen up." As we were about to stand she suddenly asked us to wait and handed us some papers from the shelf. "I almost forgot about this."
I looked at the paper filled with rules.
She said, "No staying out after 11 at night. No loud music or any noise after 10. Clean up your room once a week at least."
Just then a petite girl in nightwear appeared and Mrs. Yang walked to her "This is Mirae. Saemi you'll share the room with her."
"Hi Mirae." I smiled wide to greet her.
"Hi." She rolled her eyes and went inside the kitchen. I wondered how I was going to survive here with that hostile aura. I could see from the sides of my eyes that Jimin was covering his mouth with his hand and laughing at me.
Mrs. Yang took her seat back in front of us "Now anyway. If you are dating somebody then don't think about bringing them here." She stated sternly.
We were waiting for her to say more but she just got up with a smile and left.
For me it was not that hard. Parties? Not interested. Love? As if.
Jeongin helped us set our luggage upstairs. There were three rooms. Jimin's was right beside mine. I went into my room and set all my things. There was one dressing table on which a lot of cosmetic and make up products were placed. I took out my lip balm from my bag because that was basically all that I used and put it beside all that heavy makeup. Mirae was lying on her bed looking into her phone. It made me feel kind of invisible. I shook my head and stepped inside the bathroom. I took a warm shower listening to my favourite songs and came out only to see that Mirae's bed lay empty. She had probably already gone downstairs.
