Walking into our favorite hole in the wall, TacoCakes, we see our favorite waitress.
"Abby! How are you?" Beth rushed to her as we got closer to the front counter. Looks like the orange velvet cake is on sale today.
Abby was a tall Mexican woman with long black hair and dark green eyes. She graduated with our mom Teresa and was named our godmother when we were born. She lived in New York for about 15 years now and watches out for us since our parents moved to Connecticut a couple of years ago.
"Aw my girls! I'm great, especially since I've expanded the place! Who thought people would like tacos and dessert so much?" Abby says as she hugs my sister and closes the register. The place was amazing with a dark color scheme of mauve, grey, and cream. "I've got you guys the special for the day, since I know it's your favorite! Plus I have a surprise!"
Abby tells one of the cooks in the back for the two specials and tells another to get something from her office in the back. Beth sits down on one of the mauve stools on the front counter while I sit next to her on the dark grey one beside her. Abby grabs the plates from her waiter and turns to us, setting them in front of us on the cream counter.
"Two bulgogi tacos! I made sure they came with extra lettuce and green onions this time."
"Thank you so much! You're the best as always!" I say before shoving about half of the taco in my mouth. Guess I was hungrier than I thought. I look over to Beth and see gaping at me. "What?" I say. "You were at my door before I had my cookies and I skipped breakfast."
"Shut up and eat you slob!" She swats my arm as she scoots closer to her plate. She hands me a napkin as she says, "At least I know how to not get food all over myself."
I just rolled my eyes as she starting eating. Abby's waiter finally came back with a yellow folder from her office. Abby thanks him and squeals a bit before she turns back to us.
"I know you girls are working hard with your jobs and getting ready for the new school year but I have something for you both." She starts opening the folder and smiling proudly at us. "I've spoken to your parents about you guys and how much you focused on your classes in your senior year. You know that they didn't make it to your graduation because they said they didn't have the money."
She wiggled her eyebrows as she looks at both of our faces.
Beth pops the last bit of her first taco as she says, "Yeah, we know. They said they were trying to save up some money for us to pursue our dreams."
"And that's exactly what they did!" Abby says as she gives each of a small packet of papers.
