chapter seven

richie hasn't seen eddie in about a week. it was driving him mad.

is he coming back?
will he ever see him again?
did he make it all up in his head?

it didn't help that he had no one to talk to it about. his mom was always gone and he had yet to make a friend. well.... maybe except that boy in the diner. he looked his age.

so.... richie decided to go get lunch.

the diner bell rang above his head and he looked around. the diner was emptier than last time he was there. he sat at the bar and tapped his fingers on the red table top.

mike came from the kitchen and gave richie a warm smile as he threw a towel over his shoulder. "How's it going today?"

"good, good" he bounced his leg

"richie right?"

"yeah"

" what'll you have today?"

"just a coke please"

mike nodded and turned around to fill a cup up with coke from the dispenser. he slid it over to richie and leaned on the counter in front of him, "how you liking Derry so far?"

"it's quiet, very different from Cali" richie took a sip from his drink

" i visited there once... beautiful sights. but i'm more of a country boy" mike shrugged and richie nodded

"so... you know a lot of people in this town?" richie casually questioned

"small town, everyone knows everyone." mike wiped down the table

"you wouldn't happen to know a boy named eddie? short? brown hair, real cute?" richie tapped his fingers as Mike laughed

" i think so. came in once or twice. a firecracker" he chuckled and richie grinned

"yeah... he is..." richie looked down at the bubbles in his drink.

the diner bell rang and the two turned to face the jingle. eddie stepped in and tucked his sunglasses in his jacket pocket. his soft eyes looked up and met richies.

richie gave him a goofy half grin and eddie smirked. he sat on the stool next to richie, never taking his eyes off him.

"hey Kaspbrak" mike rolled his eyes fondly and left to clean dishes when he got no response.

"hey curls, didn't expect you to be here" eddie winked and richies guts turned

"uh- yeah i was just," he shook his cup making the ice clink, "getting a drink" he adjusted his glasses nervously

eddie nodded and turned to mike, "cherry cola?"

mike nodded.

"sorry i haven't stopped by lately... i've been busy"

"your good, i wasnt worried or anything" richie tried to act cool and brushed it off.
