Ever since the last expedition, you had felt something was terribly wrong.

Fuelled by the noticeable absence of a certain Captain not showing up to daily meals anymore, keeping his office door locked, and has been refusing to speak to anyone for the past week.

Having a crush on the short character made you pick up his absence quite clearly. Even though he was so close to the ground, even in a room crowded with people, you couldn't help but for him to be the only person you could see.

I mean you, as a hormonal 17 year old, you couldn't help but google him - even when you found out he was almost 20 years older than you.

Like seriously, is he using a youth potion or what?

The first few days of his disappearance, you simply dismissed it as him mourning over the loss of his squad. You knew that Levi was never one to be fond of company, so his familiarity with his squad, must be the closest relationship he had to another human.

But as days drew to weeks which drew to months, you couldn't help but feel so hopeless and concerned.

As you ate your small meal of potatoes and soup, you couldn't help but gaze over the empty spot next to Hanji. And you couldn't help but gaze to the empty table, once filled with a squad full of joy and optimism, now left as a sad remainder of death and grief.

You hated it.

You hated the cold atmosphere. You hated the gloom that stuck around and never went away. You hated how you didn't know how your crush was doing. He wasn't just a crush. He was more than that. He was what your heart decided to choice. He was something that you could never have.

You couldn't help but want to know what happened to the raven haired boy. You loved him. And you had to know.

And today may be the day you will be able to meet him for the first time.

As the cadet whose assignment is to drop off the Captain's meals had unfortunately passed away on the same expedition that had ultimately claimed the lives of Levi's squad, you had been now assigned to deliver the meals to Levi's door step, much to your delight.

You could see Hanji signalling you over, and you knew it was time to do your assignment.

You would be lying if you weren't excited.

You grabbed the dish with tender fingers. It looked amazing. So this is where the budget was going into...

You climbed down the hallways, your footsteps echoing through the abandoned hallways. You floated like a ghost, hesitant about the situation you were going to encounter.  Your slim fingers grasped the golden door handle, and you just entered freely, without much thought. Cautiously, you opened the door at a very slow rate scared to what you may find.

"Levi?" you whispered in a worried tone,  peeking your head through the door, to get an insight to the scene you were going to witness.

But nothing could prepare you for this.

Paper were spread out all over the floor, empty bottles laid scattered like fallen bowling pins around the space. Some of them, were even smashed into millions of pieces, making you question how someone could even walk through the room without getting injure.

But what captured your attention the most was the small figure laying on the small sofa in his office, unrecognisable by the scuffed mess he dare call hair.

Startled by the call of his name, his eyes flickered open, revealing empty grey orbs which highlighted his under bags that you felt that if he was left awake for a moment longer, his whole face would turn into massive under bags.

His face looked too tired to express any emotion. You could tell he was stunned and uncomfortable about this situation, but his lack of adequate energy forced him to be powerless to dictate anything.

"L-Levi!" you ran over to him, in a horror, the door slamming shut behind you.

You wanted to hug him, comfort him. Tell him everything will be okay. But you could tell that Levi, being the emo, secluded guy he was, he wouldn't really like that.  But that fact totally slipped your mind as you store over his fragile and shaggy figure, and your heart controlled your body.

It was more than you being there for your crush. It was about comforting another human being. Someone who needed help. someone who needed someone.

"[F-F/N]" he wheezed, his voice so strained and rigged. He looked less than healthy, in fact, he looked more like a dying cancer patient than "humanities strongest warrior".  Mustering all the energy he could, and groaning as he tried to sit up, to which you put him back down to avoid him getting even more injured, he let out a stiff sigh. "Go away." His voice, normally full of authority, was now laced with pain and weakness.

You shook your head, looking down at him.

You figured he took it the wrong way when his body began vibrating like a tiny earthquake. Rising before you could stop him, he was now full of anger and power. "I said, go away!"

You were trembling with fear. You wanted to cower away. You wanted to go and ran out this room, and hide.

But you couldn't.

Something didn't let you. And that something was your heart.

Without even thinking, you wrapped your arms around his skinny waist. It was quite hard to hug him due to your height difference, but you managed nor did you really mind the hardship, you just wanted to help him.

"Please," you whispered, "Let me help you."

His eyes open in shock, no one dared pull that move on their superior. No one. Though, even though he hated hugs, and hated contact in general, he allowed himself, just this once, to let someone get this close to him. He returned the gesture, wrapping his arms around you, finally allowing himself to relieve the pressure of his shoulders.

All to quickly, hot drops of liquid were sliding down your neck, followed by the sound of muffled sobs. "Th-Their gone. I-Its my f-fault," he choked out in between sobs.

"It's okay. I'm here now."

"You'll leave! You'll leave like rest of them. You'll just," he didn't get to finish before a tsunami of sobs erupted form him.

"I-I won't."

"Y-you can't-t pro-mise th-at! Y-you can't!"

You knew he was telling the truth. No one can tell you when the next expedition will be the last. But for once, now you have a real reason to live.

"Of course I can't. But I promise I will be here and spend every breath in ensuring that you will be okay. You are going to be okay."

And with those words, he crumbled in your arms. He had someone. Someone who cared. Someone who will be there. And just like that. His squad didn't matter. Isabel and Farlan didn't matter. It was just about him. Because for the first time, he realised he mattered. Not just because he meant something to you, but because he realised he mattered.

And just like that, his scars began to disappear.
