Eli walked me up to my front door as he always did, he was too sweet to me. "Thanks for coming with me. I had a lot of fun!"
"Of course, Ellie. I enjoy spending time with you." I mentioned without thinking, and a blush rose to my cheeks as I realized what I had just admitted. I had come up with the nickname a week or so ago. It wasn't that creative, but he had thought it was original. At first Eli didn't seem to like it too much, but he didn't protest it.
"I'm glad, because so do I." He stated, he stood around and shuffled his feet for a minute, as if he was nervous about something. He slowly brought his hand up and cupped the side of my face with it. Mindlessly, his thumb traced my cheekbone as he looked me in the eyes. It seemed like he was searching for something, but all I could concentrate on was the warmth I felt from his hand that was caressing my cheek. "Can I kiss you, Birdie?"
I stood there for a moment in shock, not expecting him to ask me that. My words seemed caught in my throat, but eventually I was able to mumble out a soft "yes" as I nodded my head. He slowly moved towards me and before I knew it, he was kissing me.
It took my breath away.
A blush covered my cheeks and I quickly looked away.
The game seemed so intense and it had me on the edge of my seat or on my feet the whole time. Eli was so amazing at it; watching him and the others play made me want to come and support him more often. I just got so excited and into it as the game went on, and I'll admit I enjoyed being able to cheer Eli on a little more than I probably should have enjoyed it.
After it was over, I hung around for a little bit watching as people left and chitchatted with each other. Chloe left with another friend, mentioning that she knew Eli would want to spend time with me and she didn't want to stick around for it. Several minutes passed when I got a text from Eli asking me to meet him in the lobby of the gymnasium. So I made my way and waited for him there.
"Hey Wren," Eli said as he walked up to me, a smile gracing his face.
"Hey, that was a really good game. You were amazing!" I exclaimed. I had never been a big sports fan, but the game was so close throughout a majority of it. Each team was basically catching up with the other the whole time until the very end when our team finally pulled ahead of the other.
"Listen, I kind of wanted to talk to you about something..." He trailed off.
I knew this was gonna happen.
He's gotten tired of me. Figured out that something's wrong with me and doesn't want to deal with it.
Oh god.
"I know we've kind of been going out on dates and stuff, and it hasn't been very serious, I guess. But I like you a lot, Birdie; I think you're so smart, creative, and funny. I want to spend more time getting to know who you are, the things you love and what you hate. I don't want it to just be casual anymore. So I was wondering if you wanted to make it kind of official and be my girlfriend?"
Oh.
My head was screaming at me to abort mission, get away from this situation, and forget about it, but my heart was going a mile a minute and drowned out my thoughts. He wanted me to be his girlfriend! Wait, did I want that? Despite all that was going through my head, it was as though my heart was screaming a "yes" with how fast it was beating.
"Of course!"
The smile that I enjoyed seeing so much from him appeared and caused one of my own to form. He wrapped me up in a hug, pulling me so close to him I could barely catch my breath. When he pulled away he cupped my face and kissed me. He caught me off guard so I didn't have enough time to react before he pulled away, "I'm sorry, I just-I've been wanting to ask you that for a while now and I just didn't know when was good enough. And I'm excited becau-"
