The Dream Of Monster Past

Start from the beginning

Scratching his neck nervously, he replied, "Sorry to keep you waiting, just had to do some...errands."

Chara looked quizzically at him before just shaking it off, moving her arms up and down as she sat down at the table. There were gifts stacked and a whole pie with candles on it on the desk, threatening to tip over. Luckily, it didn't, though it was shaking every time a chair was pulled from the table and pushed in. Slowly and carefully, he walked over, pulling out the chair then pushing it in gently as he sat in it. Looking around, he saw all the lights on and people gathering outside, holding multi-colored, wrapped presents. Monsters smiled, singing an off-key Happy Birthday, hugging and holding hands; Chara was smiling, tears of joy trickling down their face. Her laugh ringed through the ceiling above, sounding the most beautiful sound to Asriel as his face became as hot as Hotland. She's just so beautiful, Asriel sighed to himself, trying his best to think of an idea to give her the best anniversary. It was going to be her last time celebrating it, since their plan was to be in action tomorrow. I don't want her to do this, why can't she just realize-

"Hello Asriel!" Chara showed her scary face, snapping Asriel out of his thoughts, making him flinch so hard that he fell on his butt with a thump. He gasped, his blush immediately getting bigger as he was consumed in humility and embarrassment. "Chara! I told you not to do that again!" Asriel whined, standing up and dusting off his clothes.

"Well, I thought you needed a SCARE in the right direction." She joked, holding Asriel's hand in hers. "Come on, let's get away from everyone first."

"Wait, where are we going-" He started, getting interrupted as Chara tugged on his arm, making him run with her into the darkness and out of the house. The scenery started to change as they ran, ran from New Home to Core, Core to Hotland, and Hotland to Waterfall. The echo flowers were replaying children laughing, bringing memories back to the two as Chara giggled and Asriel tried to keep up. Though, from the way that they were going, Asriel knew where they were going, to the place where they first sat on the mysterious bench and ate Nice Cream. It was one of the first place Asriel showed her as the memory made him smile. "Chara, why did you bring us here?" Asriel asked, sitting on the bench when they got there.

"Chara, why did you bring us here?" The echo flower beside him repeated, in his voice, sending shivers down his spine. We really need to replant that flower somewhere else, he thought, eyeing Chara as she sat down. Though, instead of answering his question, she just sat in silence as her eyes shadowed beneath her bangs and her cheeks became a darker shade of pink and red. It was about a few minutes before the two talked at all, listening to the comfortable silence that loomed above the couple. Asriel was the first to speak, moving closer to Chara as the blush on his face increased and their hands were touching. "Chara..." He began, then suddenly, out of nowhere, Chara hugged him tightly, burying her head in his neck. Tears streamed down her face as there was only one thought in her mind: I don't want to die without you. "A-Asriel, I..I.." She cried, muffled as she spoke through Asriel's shirt.

Impulsively, Asriel immediately put his other hand on her back, stroking it lightly and gently as he held her in his arms, his emotions in his head blowing up as he began to blush hard. Heh, I feel like I've been in this before, he thought, pulling back as the tears on Chara's eyes began to slow, stopping within a few seconds as she tried to wipe it furiously. She mostly never cries, though this is only the second time Asriel seen her do it. Whatever it meant, it always happened when she was thinking deeply about something, maybe a feeling of guilt or regret. She's crying, how do I help her, Asriel thought as an idea came into his head. This must work, it always does...I hope, he sighed, leaning in and brushing Chara's bangs aside, revealing her dark, blood red eyes. He smiled, admiring the view as he leaned in more, his lips touching the top of her forehead. When they were young, he'd do this if she got hurt while playing, always making a smile on her face. But this time...this time was different. Instead of smiling, the tears flowed more as her blush spread across her face. "Why do you like me?! Tell me, why...just...why...?" She cried out, putting her face on her hand. "N-No one should l-like me after what I done..."

"Chara, snap out of it! You're acting crazy. Don't question why us monsters like you...why I love you and care for you." Asriel sighed, pulling her to his chest as he put his chin on her head. Tears started to go down his face as well as he thought more about her, never realizing that she ever thought this. "Chara, I love you, you know that? I care about you the most, you are the only one that understands me. Just please, don't think about this stuff."

"Asriel, you don't get it. Of course, you don't g-get it. You can never understand what I have been through-" She started. Then, as she was talking, Asriel planted his lips on hers, immediately silencing her as they both melted in the kiss. The echo flowers around them stopped repeating, the entire world around them stopped moving. This moment was perfect as slowly, Asriel backed away, smiling having a blush over his face. Chara, on the other hand, was now the blushing mess between the two, her face as red as her eyes, her mouth gaping. Asriel, to make this less awkward that it was, put his hands on her soft, light skin, grinning crazily but genuinely. After all, he just had his first kiss with his one and only best friend and crush. "I don't need to understand anything. All I need to know, and you too, is that I love you with my heart, and I know you feel the same for me." He chuckled, hugging Chara.

"I love you, Azzy. B-But y'know th-there might b-be p-people watching us." Chara stuttered, looking around paranoid to find someone out there.

"Who cares?! I finally kissed you and told you I love you. Now that has to be something the world can see!" He stood up in excitement, punching his hand in the air. "You hear that world, CHARA AND I ARE A COUPLE!"

Then suddenly, the world started to vanish...

Asriel woke up in cold sweat, tears running down their face as he sat up straight in his bed. Chara, I miss you, he thought, crying silently into the nightly sky above him. Little did he know, Chara too was crying, sitting on his bed, leaning her head on his shoulder and putting her arm around him. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but I have to do this. I love you, Azzy." She whispered in his ear, vanishing from sight. Asriel heard her voice, somewhat comforting him as he curled up again, falling asleep with tears in his eyes and a broken heart.

*You hear Author-Chan cry* AAAAAA, why did I have to make this sad at the end Q~Q. *She continues to cry*
