"You are awful," Mom said, trying her hardest not to laugh excitedly as she listened.

"At one point when we were just talking about anything, he asked me what usually went down on my first dates, and I told him some of the award winning questions I had been asked, and one of them was about whether or not Emmie is my real name. So, then he wanted to know the answers to all the questions, and I told him my real name was Emerson, and now he calls me Emerson." I watched as my mom's eyebrows raised in surprise and I slowly nodded, letting that sink in with her.

"And you let him?"

"He makes it sound like the prettiest name I've ever heard," I told her and she smiled widely. "I have never had such an immediate admiration for someone in my life."

"So, he really does sound promising... huh?" I nodded at my mom's question and couldn't help but to smile to myself.

"However, it was only one date. The first date is always either the worst or the best. That leaves plenty of room for disappointment next time." As I started to speak, my mom's eyes heavily rolled.

"Why can't you be optimistic?"

"I'm not saying the next one will be shit, I'm just saying it might," I told her and she gave me an annoyed look. "I'm being realistic; I always have to stay realistic. It's not safe to get stuck in your daydreams."

"It's okay to let them last for at least a little while, Emmie." I sighed quietly and wanted my mom to know that I really hoped things with Calum would continue and prosper, but I also didn't know him more than surface level. And Calum's the one that reminded me there's more to a person than just their surface. "Is there going to be a second date?"

"He told me he wanted there to be one... and of course, I'd love that. Mom... we kissed," I said, suddenly remembering that I had not only went on a first date with Calum, but that I had kissed him.

"Emerson!"

"I almost forgot," I said, scrunching my eyebrows together in confusion.

"On the first date?" Mom asked, in a whisper-yell.

"It just seemed and felt so right, like it was bound to happen and that it needed to happen. I feel so comfortable with him, or at least I did. Who knows how I feel now." I rambled on and on, letting my inner thoughts get the best of me as I started to rethink letting Calum kiss me on the first date. "Jesus, do I kiss him when I see him next time? Is he going to expect us to kiss?"

"You think I know how to date?" Mom asked, laughing cheaply as she brought her hands up to her head. "Emmie, you might actually be in a relationship soon."

"Ew, don't say that."

"Ew?" Mom asked, laughing as she shook her head at me, clearly thinking I was funny. "You're so backward."

"I'm too old to be in a relationship."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Mom asked, clearly taking offense to my words, which caused me to chuckle.

"Being in a relationship and being married is so different, Mom. I haven't done very many cutesy relationship things, but he's younger, so surely he's got all the motivation in the world to be in a relationship."

"Emmie, you're twenty-four," she told me, becoming annoyed as I called myself old. "You know you have to be in a relationship before you can get married, right? Dad and I were in a relationship once, too." I scrunched my nose up at the thought and Mom laughed at me, thinking I was silly. "Have you talked to him since?"
