(The next day)
We made an appointment at my OBGYN yesterday after we got back to my place. I was driving us there and we were running a little behind. "That light's been yellow way too long." Steve says. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a car coming from my side, so I slam on the brakes, the car speeds past, right in front of us, almost hitting us. The light turns red, and I move my hand to my chest, feeling my heart beating fast. I take a few deep breaths, trying to steady myself and calm down. Steve touches my arm lightly, "Are you okay?" He asks, concerned.
I meet his worried gaze, I nod, relaxing a bit. I bring my hand up to caress his cheek. "Yeah, I'm okay." I say. His body relaxes, as he exhales a sigh of relief, "Oh thank God!" He exclaims. I kiss his lips softly, then gently stroke the back of his neck. I turn back to the road, the light turns green and I look both ways before moving forward.
After a moment of peaceful silence, "You know, I love you." I tell Steve. I can hear the smile in his voice when he says, "I love you so much!"
Once we get to the doctor's office, I check in at the front desk, then we sit down in the waiting area. Another woman sitting near us is holding a crying baby, she's rocking the baby in her arms, trying to soothe it. I turn to Steve, "Did we make the right decision?" I ask him.
"Yeah." He says without hesitation.
I nod, "Yeah, we did." I agree.
The door opens and a woman calls my name, and says that the doctor is ready for me. Steve and I stand up and follow the woman to the back, where she weighs me and takes my blood pressure, then takes us into an exam room and asks me a few questions before having me take a pregnancy test. "The doctor will be back with your results." She says, then leaves the room.
A little while later, there's a knock on the door.
"Come in." I say and the doctor walks inside, closing the door behind her.
She tells us that I am pregnant, and she wants to do an ultrasound just to see how far along I am and to make sure that everything's going smoothly. I agree and then she wheels in the ultrasound machine. She turns the machine on, then has me lay down on the exam chair, and lift my shirt up. She puts some cold gel on my belly, I inhale sharply, shocked at how cold it is. Steve immediately grabs my hand, his expression worried. "It's a little cold." The doctor says, smiling. I squeeze Steve's hand gently, "Yeah, I just wasn't expecting it to be so cold." I laugh, and Steve relaxes beside me.
"Do you hear that?" The doctor asks. I nod. "That's your baby's heartbeat." She says.
I smile, tears welling up in my eyes, I can hardly believe it, and I'm so happy. "There's your baby." She says, "That's the head," she points at the screen beside us, "And there's the body, see the arm there?" She asks.
Tears stream down my cheeks, "Look honey, she's waving at us!" I exclaim to Steve, excitedly. I turn to look at him, he's crying too, a huge smile spread across his face.
"I'm just so happy right now!" He says, looking at me. I kiss his hand, "So am I." I tell him, grabbing his face with both hands, and kissing him.
"I love you." He says, staring into my eyes.
"I love you." I tell him, then he kisses my forehead.
We turn back to the screen, watching our baby moving around inside of me.
"It's a little too early to tell the sex of the baby, it looks like you're three months pregnant, and the baby looks healthy and everything looks great." The doctor tells us. She takes a picture of the baby and the machine prints it out. She hands me a wipe, and I wipe the goo off of my belly with it, then pull my shirt back down. She hands us the photo and then tells us that we should set up our next appointment with the lady at the front desk, which will be in three weeks and we'll be able to find out the sex of the baby at the appointment after that one, so in about two months. We thank her, and she leaves. We set up the next appointment with the lady at the front desk and then head to the other side of town to get the paperwork done for our wedding.
We get there pretty quickly and just have to sign the marriage certificate, then we head back to his place to get the last of his things so he can finish moving in to my place. We pack up the rest of his things and put them in my car, then go back to my place, well, our place now.
We call everyone we want to invite to our wedding and tell them that we're getting married and invite them to the wedding. It doesn't take long to invite everyone since we're keeping the wedding small, just close friends and family. Everyone is excited and tells us that they'll be there.
Steve cooked us dinner after we finished calling everyone, and we ate. Then we washed the dishes quickly before sitting down on the couch and cuddling while watching tv for a little while before I start to fall asleep.
"Alright, let's get to bed." Steve says, "It's been a long day, you need your rest." He helps me up off the couch and leads me to the bedroom.
I smile, "It's been a great day." I tell him, sleepily. I slowly undress, putting on my pajamas.
"Yes it has." He agrees, getting changed into his pajamas as well, and getting into bed. I slip into bed beside him, wrapping my arms around him, his arm draped across my waist as we both drift off to sleep.
