It was a relief when the coach finally arrived at the lab. The four had been sitting in uncomfortable silence for almost an hour and were glad to get away from each other.

Roman and Patton stood next to each other, anxiously waiting for Thomas to tell them what to do. Everybody else was talking to each other, trading gossip and just flapping their lips. A group of girls passed them and each giggled nervously when they saw Roman. He smiled at them and they smiled back. When they left Roman could hear them claiming he had been flirting with them. He rolled his eyes - as if.

Patton chuckled at this a nudged him slightly. Roman pushed him away playfully. The crowd suddenly went quiet and they both turned.

Thomas was standing in front of everybody, grinning at them all. "All right everybody, we made it!" he called, and everybody cheered. "Alright now, I'm going to have to split everybody into eight groups, okay?"

Patton heard Logan mutter "What does he mean? I don't want to split into eight different parts of myself," and then Virgil replied, "He means we have to work with other people, Lo." Patton chuckled to himself - Logan was quite the character.

Thomas was currently calling out the name for each group. Groups one, two, three and four had already been called. But when group five was called, things seemed to be about to go downhill.

"Logan, Patton, Leah, Roman, Gary and Virgil."

Roman's grin disappeared, Patton mentally prepared himself, Logan almost swore and Virgil's fight or flight reflexes began kicking in. The other two random people didn't seem to notice, and had no trouble getting into the group. Logan and Patton strolled confidently over to "Gary" and "Leah" while Roman hesitantly walked over. Virgil didn't move for a second before trudging towards the others.

Of all the people he could have been teamed with, it just had to be Roman. Speak of the devil, when Virgil glanced up he could see Roman giving him a rather nasty look. Virgil decided it would be best to keep his head down.

Thomas was the teacher leading their group. He took them to a door leading into the facility and they all entered in an orderly line. Logan looked around interestedly, Patton's mouth opened into the shape of an "O" and Roman's eyebrows almost disappeared under his hair. Virgil, despite himself, looked up.

The lab was almost blinding. There were bright lights everywhere and people too. Machines were scattered around the large room with people crowding around them. The students stared in fascination at everything around them. Roman gaped when he saw somebody walk through an arched dressed in normal clothes and emerge from the other side wearing a cat onesie. He pointed this out to Patton, who squealed in delight.

Logan looked about ready to bombard every scientist in the building with questions, but first they had to go through a machine.

This confused the six students. A scientist stepped forward and began to explain the process.

"Hello!" said the scientist. He was tall and lean, a bit like Virgil, with brown hair. Logan noticed something in his eye but couldn't quite grasp what it was. "Welcome to the science lab! I hope everybody's excited to be here. I suppose you're all wondering why you have to go through this machine?" They nodded. "Well, it checks for virus's that you might unconsciously carry on you that could have a negative effect on the machines."

Logan put up his hand and asked his question before he could told he could. "But, hypothetically, if we were carrying a virus, wouldn't it interfere with the machine that confirms it?"

The scientist's smile twitched slightly. "The machine is specifically created to fight off the virus, so it should be fine."

"Why aren't all the machines virus-proof?" asked Roman. Even Virgil had to admit he had a point.

"Don't ask me, I didn't make everything in this room," replied the scientist. He led them over towards the machine and asked them to get into yet another line.

Roman went first. He stepped into the machine and stood still and a red light glowed around his body. He shivered slightly - it was only a light, yet it felt real. It almost felt like it wasn't coming from the machine. Roman frowned. Where else would it come from then, you donut? he thought to himself. He stepped out of them machine and the scientist smiled at him. Roman almost shivered again. There was something weird about his smile.

Next went Logan. As he stood in the machine a dark blue light surrounded him. Logan looked at it with confusion. This wasn't what usually happened with machines of this style. At least, the way the light was caused wasn't. It felt strange to him and it was a relief to step out of the machine.

Patton practically bounced into the machine, a big grin on his face. A pale blue light rose from what seemed like nowhere. It was ticklish and caused Patton to a giggle. But when he left the machine, the smile on the scientist's face almost complete washed away that grin.

Finally, Virgil entered the machine. The light around him was purple, although he couldn't tell whether it was a light shade or dark. It felt unnatural yet seemed to reflect him perfectly. Virgil almost physically punched himself. Reflect him? How on earth could it reflect him?

He stepped out of the machine and joined the other four while the next two had their turns. Logan turned to him with a raised an eyebrow.

"Was there a strange blue light around while you were inside the machine?" he asked.

Virgil blinked. "You mean purple?"

"Mine was light blue!" exclaimed Patton, causing Virgil and Logan to jump.

"Really? Mine was a dark blue," said Logan. Roman sauntered over with a confused look on his face.

"Mine was red," he stated.

The four exchanged glances and then Leah left the machine. She wandered over to them, a smile on her face.

"What colour  light did you get?" asked Roman.

Leah tilted her head slightly. "What do you mean? There weren't any lights in there."

She skipped off, leaving the others with raised eyebrows and open mouths. When they asked Gary about it, he said the exact same thing.

Logan pondered it for a moment. "Could it be we carry the virus that scientist was talking about?" he suggested. The others nodded, seeing as there didn't seem to be any other explanation.

Sure enough, the scientist gathered the group together and asked for Virgil, Roman, Patton and Logan. "I'm afraid we will have to check them over before they can join in on the activities. It may take a while, so I suggest beginning the tour without them," he said to Thomas.

Thomas nodded and turned to the others. "Good luck you four," he said and left with Gary and Leah. The scientist gave them another smile and Logan once again noticed something strange in his eyes. It was rather unsettling.

The scientist led them to a door far away from the buzz of the laboratory. Other scientists gave them strange looks - Roman though they seemed triumphant about something. They were pushed through the door without warning something grabbed them.

Before anybody could get a proper look at the people who had snatched them something was jabbed into their necks and before they knew it, each of them very suddenly tired. Very tired. So tired in fact that they collapsed on the floor, unconscious.

The scientist was smiling again.
