My Only Exception

Trouble with Sister...

Biology had just finished and Nate and I were walking to the library to study since we had a study period now when I heard, "Well, well, well, if it isn't Kat Michaels."

I turned around slowly. "Noah? What are you doing here?"

"I go to school here. You miss me?"

"I thought you were going to boarding school now. Did you get kicked out of there too?"

"Maybe."

"Well, bye then." I said and walked off whispering to Nate, "Let's go!"

When we were in the library, Nate asked, "Who was that?''

"My delinquent of a cousin. Stay clear of him- he's only trouble."

"Nathan Charles and Katherine Michaels, please see the Principal in the office now."

Ugh- what did we do?

"Hopefully, this is something good." Nate mumbled.

We walked into the office and knocked on the door to Sister Annie.

"Come in."

"You wanted to see us, Sister?"

"Yes, actually. Please sit." she said, gesturing to the seats.

"What did we do?" Nate asked.

Cutting to the chase much?

"I would like to reply to that question saying nothing but unfortunately, you did do something. Apparently both of you were both seen in your morning classes but not in your afternoon classes. Why is that?"

 I knew she would find out. I swear she's like a 24-hour security guard watching my every move..

"I got sick so Nate decided to drive me home so I could rest and I asked him to stay to make sure I was all right. I would have gone to the nurse but she would have just told me to get rest anyway and since I couldn't drive, I asked Nate."

"Is this true, Mr. Charles?"

Please say yes!

"Yes, Sister."

"Ok, you may leave but you stay, Ms. Michaels. I need to speak with you."

"Ok."

And he exited the office.

"So, how have you been?" she asked.

"Good. I've been good."

"You know, your mom called. She said to tell you that they miss you. They're in New Zealand right now."

Why couldn't she call me for herself?

"Is that all? Can I leave now?"

"Yes, you may go now."

At lunch, I begged Nate to come with me to eat lunch "off campus". He drove.

I asked him to go to this little restaurant close to the school.

When we were seated, a waitress walked up to our table. "Can I take your or- Nate!" 

He looked up at the girl. "Oh hey, um-" 

He looked as if he was trying to remember her name.

"Jill." she said, "You never called me back after that night,"

I cleared my throat rather loudly. "Hey. Jill? Can you just take our order? We don't need a ride down memory lane."

That came out a bit angrier than I meant for it to.

When she left Nate said with a huge smirk that needed wiping off, "Someone's a bit jealous."

"I can't believe you slept with that girl and couldn't even remember her name." I said, changing the topic from me.

"It was a long time. How was I supposed to remember?"

"Would you like if you slept with a girl and and she forgot your name?"

"Trust me- no girl would ever forget my name after-"

"I guess I saw that coming. Next time, warn me if we go to a place where one of your hook-ups work."

"I'm sorry if this makes you uncomfortable. I didn't know she worked here."

"Ok, I forgive you."

"Did you ever find out who that girl was who was desperate enough to hook up with Aidan?"

"I thought you said you would be nicer? And no, actually, I didn't. I should really ask him who the girl was."
