It was the annual Fleet Week for the UNSA, something you didn't really care for. Secretly, you wished that all those ships would just blow up. Little did you know, your secret wish was going to come true in just a few minutes. You sat in the living room of your house fiddling with a Mauler that your father had, fixing a few parts here and there to make sure it worked for him. The Mauler was one of the few weapons you were intrigued by because it looked very powerful.

Usually Earth prohibited weapon carrying after all the crime that happened, but since the enforcement of the world did barely anything these days, basically anyone was able to carry a gun. This was one of the many reasons why you hated Earth. It was full of people who did nothing to help others. Your father also seemed to hate them, after he was caught in an explosion and the only thing that the politicians did for him, even after he had served 20 years in the military, was give him a month in hospital. They didn't even bother to give him the chance to sign up for a new left arm after the explosion had caused rubble to land on his arm and destroy the bones in it. You mother was a kind and gentle woman most of the time, but if a member of her family got hurt and no one helped them, she would display a defensive side and threaten them, which both impressed and kind of scared you. She wanted you to follow your dreams, and she was the one who had helped your dad get a new arm. Not only did she threaten to expose corruption in the forces, after she'd taken pictures of a gambling site the forces were using when they claimed to be looking for terrorists, but she'd said that it has to be the best cybernetic arm your father could get or there would be hell to pay. You smiled at the memory and soon fixed up the gun for your dad.
"Thanks son", you dad said before he ruffled your hair with a smile. You hugged him just as a huge BANG was heard. The three of you ran outside to see what it was just as a UNSA ship, the Endurance, crashed into the water nearby your house causing a huge tidal wave. You looked up and saw three ships flying just overhead, as well as the AATIS guns firing on the UNSA fleet. A part of you was happy this was happening, but it did also scare you a little as you didn't know what was happening

"What ships are they, dad?", you asked your father, a little scared. He looked at them with shock
"SetDef...those are SetDef ships", he murmured before he turned to you. "It's the Settlement Defense Front. They're attacking Geneva. We have to get to safety." He ran back to the house and grabbed a few things, namely his Mauler before he came back, handing you a combat knife he had and handing your mother a pistol. "Take these. We need to be on guard", he warned. The three of you began running down an alleyway to get away from the fighting when some troops arrived, and they didn't look friendly.

They were just about to shoot when your father recognised one of them.
"James? James Robertson?", you father said to one of them, who removed his helmet
"Alex L/N?", he responded and the two shared a quick brotherly hug
"You know this person dad?", you asked him, and your dad looked at you
"Yeah, James and I used to be in the Marines together", your dad responded and James put his helmet back on. "Listen James, us three want to get off this useless planet and join SetDef. We need you and your team to act as though you're taking us hostage", he explained. James nodded and signalled his team, who understood and your dad handed one of them his Mauler to make it look more convincing, before the three of you were escorted away. One of them shoved you and you fell over, before they helped you up, making it more convincing. The six of you made your way to a docked SetDef Warden.

You, your mum and your dad were pushed aboard. One of them handed your dad back his Mauler before the doors closed and the Warden started lifting off into the air. You looked out the window as the fighting continued. You didn't care about your home any more. Your new home would be the Settlement Defense Front. The Warden soon docked with a carrier and the six of you got off. James and the other two pointed their weapons at your backs as an officer approached
"Lieutenant! Why are civilians on the Galaxius?!", the officer shouted at James. Before James could answer, you spoke up
"We are here because we see Earth as weak. Lacking discipline. Pathetic. Inept. We wish to join the Settlement Defense Front, join a cause worth fighting for.", you explained. The officer rubbed his bearded chin in thought before he spoke to James again
"Take those three to the brig. We'll need to discuss what we are to do with them. The boy seems ideal for military, the man seems more fit for bridge crew, the woman can be a technician or medic, depending on her field of expertise", the officer ordered James and his squad. Your mother spoke up
"I am very well trained in everything I need to know to serve the SDF. Engineering, medical, weapon designing, many other fields. Anything you need, I can help with", she said and the officer nodded in interest. He motioned for the six of you to follow and James ushered you forward. You, your father and your mother followed the officer close. Soon the three of you were placed in a cell as the Galaxius jumped into SDF territory. You would have to learn to cast off your Earth past and embrace your SDF life now.
