Chapter Three
-Blane's POV-
The sun had just set with the moon shining through the trees down on my black fur that bended in as one with the shadows. The snow melted under my paws from my hot body temperature, I was patrolling around my pack's territory, until I heard a horrible sound come from the outside of my pack territory. The sound was a blood curdling scream of a human girl, and somehow deep in my bones I knew that, and that death was approaching the poor girl as her screams continued to echo around the forest around us. I looked towards my pack mates that were patrolling with me and saw that they too had stopped and were at alert at the terror filling the forest, though I knew that they weren't feeling the absolute sinking dread I suddenly was. My third in command Luca looked towards me and tilted his head in questioning if we should go investigate the screams, though it wasn't on our territory, it was close enough to warrant investigating. My wolf didn't give me a second chance to consider elsewise, he forced me to take off running in the direction where the screams have now stopped, Luca and the other three pack warriors following.
With the five of us alert and listening with our enhanced wolf hearing, it being amplified even more so in our wolf forms than our human forms, it was then a gust of wind blew our way that had our hackles raising and the five of us growling at the scent that carried in the wind. The smell of blood and vampire were quickly putting me in a rage, a rage stemmed from a deep hatred for the monsters that murdered my kingdom's king and queen when I was four years old. I became an orphan at four and was taken in by the pack's beta male and female, my best friend's parents. Our kingdom had to be ruled for the first time in centuries by a wolf with no royal blood for nine years until I shifted into my wolf three years before I was expected to, and I ascended the throne of the werewolf kingdom. Soon enough my pack, the Moon Shadow Pack, was back to being the almighty royal pack it once was, and no doubt was left in the kingdom's minds that we were the strongest pack once again. Unfortunately, the werewolf population still hadn't recovered from the last attack from the vampires, we were surely outnumbered as their army grew by turning humans and I was afraid we wouldn't be able to handle the next battle. The thought of losing was always weighing heaving on my mind, so I threw myself into excruciating training over the last few years to become one of the most powerful werewolves in history.
The vampires have been waiting for a human for many centuries now, but no ordinary human, the Chosen One. It's blood of it will be the only being that can survive two different supernatural species DNA together, if bitten by a vampire and bitten by a werewolf, it will become a hybrid, and the only possible hybrid. Containing both genes, it will become the strongest creature on this earth and near unstoppable. No vampire or werewolf can be turned like that, testing has been done on both sides, so the vampires have been waiting for it. Because if they get the Chosen One, they can wipe out the entire werewolf population, ending the war for good and be free to wreak havoc on the human race. The Chosen One's blood isn't just as simple as you think, it's the power of its soul, older than any soul to be still alive. It gets reborn as a human every 1,000 years, giving its human body the ability to be turned by both immortal species making a powerful, unstoppable creature. We've heard that there's still around another hundred or so years left until the soul is set to return, so we don't have to worry for a while. I've also heard the last time the soul was in human form it became vampire but was killed by hunters before they had a chance to get it bitten by a werewolf, so they failed that time and we have to beat them to it this time. There isn't a single living creature, werewolf or vampire that has been alive since the last rebirth of the Chosen One, though we are immortal, both species lost the majority of their population to each other in the Blood War that lasted for a century, ending over 800 years ago.
My third in command Luca, spoke to me through our mind link, 'Should we go and hunt it down before it enters our territory?' Though yes we had to kill the vampire, my wolf was desperately urging me to save the human girl first, I had no idea why the life of a human was becoming more important than the duty of protecting my pack, but I couldn't ignore the instincts of my wolf.
So, I responded to Luca and the other three pack warriors in the mind link 'Yes, Luca you take Hudson and Alex and go after the vampire. Levi you come with me to see if we can help the human'. To that I got confused looks by all four wolves, wondering why I personally won't be going after the vampire, as my hatred for them is well known amongst the pack. However, none of them questioned my orders, they nodded their wolf heads in silent agreement and with that we continued our mad dash towards the smell of vampire and death.
The nearer we got, I started picking up on a fainter, sweeter smell hidden amongst the other foul smells being carried in the wind, making my wolf even more anxious. We were nearing closer, just having left the boundaries of the pack territory, we must only be a few minutes away judging by the strength of the smell now, my wolf continued to push me to run faster, with Luca and the pack warriors struggling to keep up as they continued to drop further and further back, not being able to keep up my pace.
Within minutes I entered a clearing and came to a sudden stop with my pack mates not far behind.
Though I was not ready for the sight in front of us, and neither were my pack mates ready for what was going to happen next.
