Chapter Two
-Violet's POV-
When I arrive at the park, not a soul is in sight, which makes me a little bit relieved because I know Egan doesn't like children very much as they somehow always get on his nerves. Hopefully having no children around will keep Egan in a better mood because the past few weeks the smallest of things have been setting off his temper, but hopefully todays surprise will mean a turning point in his mood.
Pulling out my phone, I see I am five minutes early, so I go and sit on top of the closest picnic table to wait for Egan to arrive. The wind then picked up and all the fallen leaves on the ground get swirled around with the wind, causing me to shiver and wrap my arms around myself wishing I had put something on thicker than my blue hoodie.
And suddenly, just like that, the wind came to a complete stop and everything around me seemed to be quiet all of a sudden. Looking up, I almost scream, because there in front of me, is Egan.
Placing a hand over my now racing heart, I blinked up at Egan "Jesus, Egan. You almost gave me a freaking heart attack!"
Rolling his eyes, he replied in an annoyed tone. "Well then, maybe some humans should pay better attention to their surroundings."
Seeing he was getting annoyed already, I tried to change the topic. "Hey," I jumped down from the picnic table and hugged him around the waist, breathing in the smell of his leather jacket and wrinkling my nose when the smell of cigarettes got too strong. "So, what's the surprise?" I asked pulling back from his stiff hug.
"Do you trust me?"
"Of course, I do, I love you, babe. But what does this have to do with the surprise for me?"
"Good. And the surprise is for me too." Then Egan grabbed my hand and started walking us into the forest that bordered the back end of the park.
Confused as to why he was taking me into the forest when it was going to be dark soon, I voiced my thoughts aloud. "Err Egan, why are you taking me in there? It's going to be dark soon and you know, there could be some creepy animals in there that could be dangerous..."
"I thought you said you trusted me," Egan snapped at me, stopping us.
"I do trust you! Just it'll be dark soon..."
"Do you want your surprise or not?"
I could tell he was getting angrier and it was all my fault, so I did the only thing I knew would calm him down. I said, "Of course I do," and let him lead me away from the park and into the forest.
After about 10 minutes, I couldn't stand the silence any longer. "So, is this surprise going to take long? Because if we freeze our asses off, you're the one that'll be warming us up."
My attempt at joking to try lighten up the mood obviously failed, because Egan's tone remained flat. "We won't get to the stage where we'll both need warming up."
"O-kay..."
So that is how we spent the next twenty minutes, in silence with me staring at his face as we continued to walk. Egan wasn't classically handsome, his nose slightly too long and pointed, his eyes too dark to name a color and impossible to read any softer emotions from, his black hair, slightly long and slicked back and his skin too pale. However, Egan was the only guy that was ever nice enough to show me the good kind of attention, and he's mine, which makes him perfect in my eyes.
Being the clumsy idiot that I am and too busy staring at Egan's face instead of where my feet were going, my foot kicked a protruding root and before I could even throw my arms out to protect my face, Egan had already yanked the back of my hoodie and had me upright again. Before I could even voice my shock at how fast he had reacted, Egan was already speaking.
