Chapter Twenty - Five

Start from the beginning

I plop down in front of him, and stare him in the eyes.

“H – ” he begins, but I sharply cut him off.

In a professional manner I state my reason for sitting with him, “I’d like to propose a challenge of epic proportions.”

He sits up, appearing interested, he cocks his head to the side, “And what exactly is this challenge.”

Okay, pull him in Fallon. This is the deal breaker. Sell it. I lean in a bit, batting my eyes. Slowly I lick my lips, before biting my lower one. He looks a bit turned on, but more so confused than anything. He goes along with it though, leaning in closer.

“I bet I can make you fall in love with me … and break your heart,”

He looks like he’s been slapped in the face, his eyes enlarging, before he sits back, and straightens up.  He composes himself again. “And what a weird and epic proposition that is indeed Fallon,” he smiles.

           “Are you game?” I breathe.

He looks at me, runs his fingers through his hair, and looks out the window. He stares for a long time. Shifting uncomfortably, I try to keep my confident demeanor. He doesn’t talk for a long time. What the hell, this wasn’t apart of the plan!

What happened to confident little Alistair who would jump up at the site of a challenge?

“What are you too scared or something? Afraid to get your fragile vampy heart broken? Being a punk are you?” I had to pressure him now. He looks over at me with an incredulous look.

“I didn’t know we just entered second grade Fallon,” he says condescendingly.

“You’re one to talk,” I mutter, flushing.

He stands up all of a sudden, and the lunch bell rings, signaling us to be dismissed. My mouth pops open. He didn’t fall for it at all. The eye batting, the lip licking, the seductive eyes! – What the hell! I’m still sitting appalled, as the cafeteria empties quickly.

He’s still standing there, waiting for me to get up.

I slowly rise to my feet. I had to up it a notch.

“Are you saying no to the challenge?” I purr, twirling my finger though a lock of my hair. God I felt like an idiot. I felt like the basic skank or something. I felt like Zoey. Well, in a less rich way.

“It’d be really fun,” I whisper, putting my hand on his chest. If this didn’t seal the deal, I don’t know what the hell would. As I felt his chest tighten under the palm of my hand I felt I had crossed the line. I mend my eyebrows together.

He suddenly grabs my hand and whirls me around, to where my back is against the wall. He takes a step back and folds his arms. As I stand their breathlessly.

“Fallon, this isn’t a fair challenge. If you haven’t noticed, you were already throwing yourself at me just to get me in. And when I didn’t feed into, you just put out more.” He shakes his head. “For your own good, you shouldn’t even challenge me this. It would be a shame if there was a tragic outcome.”

“What – “I stumble, “Your heart being broken?”

His eyes darken. “Even worse than that,”
