"What...?" He asked, his voice plagued by a thick accent. I flew closer and smiled again. The confusion in his eyes grew greater as he tilted his head and tried to figure out what I was doing. He had dropped his gun when I'd kicked him, accidentally readying it to be shot. I focused on it and the gun lifted in the air, pointing straight at him. He should have to go through what my friends were going through, although it had nearly stopped completely for Jace by now. I mentally aimed the gun at the man and took no hesitation in shooting him. The thing weighed a good fifteen pounds or so, draining my energy by the second to keep it in the air.
Luckily, I'd shot him and he fell, making seizure- like movements as Jace and Adri had. I ran over to Jace, who was now lying still on the floor. The electricity had left his skin. He looked pale and he groaned though, still not moving.
"Eno, it feels like I've been beat up. Ugggghh!" He moaned. I smiled down at him and quickly kissed his forehead.
"I wasn't sure if those guns would kill you guys or not."
"It felt like people were throwing rocks at me while my skin tingled and I couldn't do anything." I nodded, gently lifting his head and setting it in my lap. I ran my fingers through his hair which was mostly straight until it curled on the ends. I bent and kissed his forehead. I smiled and turned around to see the guard still covered in the spider web of electricity and shaking.
Adri had opened her eyes and looked straight at me without moving anything but her eyes. Her mouth opened slightly and she moaned, making me smile even wider. It made me happy to see that they were okay, somewhat in pain or not.
"How are you feeling?" I asked her.
"Terrible." I smiled and stood up, setting Jace's head back on the floor. I walked over and picked up one of the guns.
"I'll give you some time to rest." I said. I looked the gun over and found two buttons labeled 'Ready' and 'E. Launch'. There was also a trigger. I held up the gun and pointed it at the first unconscious man. I pushed the 'Ready' button and shot the gun at him, watching his body spasm. I shot the remaining two men as well to give us extra time.
Jace sat up, something Adri wasn't able to do quite yet. I walked to him and held out my hand to help him up. He waved it off.
"I can't stand yet, I can hardly sit." He said.
"Oh. Sorry."
"It's not your fault. We didn't know what the guns were. Plus, you got the last one down. I don't know how you did it, but you did. You saved us from whatever they would have put us through. Good job." I smiled at him and leaned closer. I put my hand behind his head and tangled my fingers in his hair, pulling him closer to me.
Finally, our lips met. It was exactly what I had hoped it would be. We gently intertwined our lips and lost ourselves in the moment. Nothing else mattered. He slid his tongue across my bottom lip, requesting entrance. I wasn't ready for that yet, so I just kept kissing him. Our lips broke apart slowly and I kissed the edge of his lips one last time before opening my eyes. We looked at each other and I saw his eyes glittering with joy. He seemed to be as ecstatic as I was about our new closeness.
After our kiss, I looked at Jace. He smiled at me and I couldn't help but smile back. That was the perfect first kiss, even if we were sitting in a hallway surrounded by twitching men with a giant hole in the wall and our friend staring at us; even if I did have wings and he was super strong, it was still the perfect first kiss.
I stood up and offered him my hand which he took. We walked over to Adri, our hands still locked, and I offered her my free hand. She took it and stood. I smiled up at them, me being the shortest. Adri dropped my hand, smiling at me and letting me hold on to Jace's hand. She looked at me like a true best friend would, with a look that says, you'll be telling me exactly what went on here today. I wrapped my arms around her and hugged tightly. I was so happy so have friends like this.
We all walked over to the hole in the wall and stared. On the other side, scientists continued working with the big equipment like there wasn't a hole in the wall with teenagers in hospital pajamas staring through it from the other side.
"Let's get those guns." I said, turning around and picking up one of them. "You have to hold the Ready button until it makes that noise and then you pull the trigger."
Jace and Adri picked up their weapons and got a feel for them. We all nodded at each other and stepped through the hole in the wall. One man turned towards us and simply ran out the door. Another man looked at us and swiftly walked to the wall, opened a panel, and pushed a large red button. He walked out of the room and was followed by more than half the scientists. That was fast.
"What's going on?" I asked quietly. Jace shook his head, dumbfounded. I thought we'd be attacked but these people were only putting away their equipment.
"I don't know." Jace said. Adri looked at us.
"I can check if you want," she offered. I nodded and turned to Jace.
He looked at me and smiled. Why did this guy like me? He's perfect and I'm just ordinary. He was stuck in this place with Adri and me, yet he chose me. Adri has creamy skin, a mixture between brown and white that looks perfectly blended while I have pale skin. She has wild curls and waves through her long caramel highlighted dark hair while my brown hair falls flat. Her waist and hips contrast deeply while I hardly have curves and she has perfect, sculpted facial features and high cheek bones. My face is bland and boring.
"They're thinking about some code. It's something important but I can't grasp it. I'm sorry." She told us. I nodded.
"What could this code be? Maybe it's something like 'Code Red'. That one guy pushed a red button. Or the code could mean they have a plan in place for if we made it in here, which we did." I said. Just then, every scientist left in the room pulled out a small handgun. I was the first to raise my weapon in defense.
I pushed the 'Ready' button and shot the closest scientist. Jace and Adri did the same until we'd gotten all of the scientists on the floor, albeit with some new holes in the wall near us. Thankfully, none of us had been hurt though.
"Great job," said a voice in the corner. "You've passed the test." We all turned our heads towards the voice.
"What do you want from us?" Jace spat. Dr. Love stood his ground.
"I want accurate results for my tests. You've done well. Prepare for the next test." He simply walked out of the room. It hit me that shooting him would have been the best bet. And why didn't the scientists shoot any of us? They had time, but they just shot the walls near us. We were a three person long target in the middle of a hole in the wall. I was sure they could've gotten one of us with amateur aim.
"Should we follow him?" I asked after a moment of silence. We all agreed and started walking towards the door on the other side of the room.
Men filed in through the door and hole in the wall before we were halfway across the room, each dressed in black or white. They held guns in both hands, pointing them at us as they moved closer. Jace lunged toward one while Adri and I began shooting them with the electricity guns.
"Go," Adri whispered. I hardly heard her.
"What?" I asked.
"Go! I can handle this." She dropped her gun and closed her eyes, focusing extremely hard. I called Jace over and we ran out the door, shooting everyone who followed us. Somehow, none of us were shot, which reminded me of the previous scientists who were willingly shot by the electricity guns. We turned a corner and stopped to catch our breaths and wait for Adri to emerge from the chaos behind us.
"Hello again." Doctor Love said right before rags were shoved over our nostrils and mouths. My senses faded to black and I fell unconscious.
I cracked open my eyes and immediately closed them, not able to handle the bright light surrounding me.
"She's coming to," someone said. I tried to open my eyes again. Above me was a large light and doctors surrounded me. A man with a medical mask leaned over me and used his gloved hand to pull the mask down so I could see his chapped lips move before I registered any sound coming from his mouth.
"Everything will be okay," he said.
