Cami shivered against Charles. They hadn't said anything to each other yet. They were thinking about the family members they had just lost. Cami was in shock and Charles was too. They both sat there for god knows how long until Charles finally zoned back in.
"What's your name?" Charles said just above a whisper.
"Cami, you?" She sobbed quietly.
"CJ. That's what they call me." Charles said trying to cheer himself and Cami up. He needed to be strong if him and Cami were to survive.
Without another word Charles got up and walked the few yards to the edge of the lake. He jumped in and swam towards where the plane had crashed. It was well sunken now.
"CJ!" Cami screamed. Did he just leave her? She couldn't do this on her own. She'd never make it. She'd just watched her parents die and now this stranger was about to commit suicide on her. She was distraught, she sat down by the tree she and CJ had been leaning against and cried. She was alone, now more than ever.
"Hey Cami. I'm sorry this happened to you." CJ said engulfing her in a hug.
"I thought you--yo--"
"Hush." CJ cooed "I could never leave. How could I leave such a pretty girl on her own?"
Cami smiled. She knew he was just trying to get her to smile and it worked. She had still lost her parents but what CJ was saying was helping her cope.
"Now pretty thing, I know I am supposed to be the man here, but I'd like to ask you for your help lugging those," CJ pointed towards the suitcases sitting at the edge of the shore. Cami got up with the help of CJ and they both dragged the suitcases up to their spot nearby. That was where they were permanently staying until rescue came. CJ had said that his parents were worrywarts and that they'd prepared him for stuff like this. He knew that they were supposed to stay near the sight of the crash.
Cami and CJ opened up the suitcases one by one and searched for anything useful at the moment. Of course they were going to keep everything just in case they needed something in the future.
"Cami?" CJ asked stopping what he was doing "I know that you miss them, I miss mine too and it's too soon to talk about it. But before I jumped out of the aircraft, your parents told me to protect you. They put faith in me, a total stranger to keep their daughter safe and I promised I would. I will protect you. I just want you to know you can trust me. I will not leave you, I will protect you." CJ leaned in closer to Cami who was squatting over a suitcase but was obviously listnening. He put his hand under her chin and made her look at him "I Promise."
"Thank you." Cami muttered shyly.
"Your welcome. But I need you to follow Rule Number 1: No more frowns." CJ said strictly although his grin gave it away. Cami looked up at him and he saw her lips curve into a small smile before it dissapeared again.
"Ok, well we need to..." CJ went on getting back to How To Survive business.

After Cami and CJ had made a shelter, found some food, dried their clothes, made a relatively comfortable bed, put out all highlighted colored things on clear land (for airplanes to see), and made a fire, they were tired out. Cami had crawled into the hut and was now sleeping while CJ was staring up at the sky. He wished his parents good luck on their new journey to after life and then finally crawled into the hut to get some sleep.
