All the high-pitched laughter, the sloppy kisses, the every-which-way hugs - all of it faded to the recesses of her mind as she stared down at the small marker of destruction, downfall, ruin - whatever you wish to call it - it sat in her palm; heavy as lead, and as bright as the neon signs that shone outside the window of the bathroom on the wall of the hotel; a shining beacon in the night for those who passed by on the busy road nearby. She swallowed the bile that rose in her throat as she closed her fist tightly over the sticky abomination. A choked moan left her chapped lips as her despaired cry was heard by the walls of the terribly colored bathroom.
"Hey Ree? You okay in there? I don't mean to be pushy, but you've been in there for a while."
She opened her mouth to respond, but the only sound that left her was broken and ragged. Tears filled her eyes as fear crept in as she realized what would happen when it was disclosed.
"Ree? Look if you don't come out, then I'm coming in." She shook her head though he couldn't see her as he paused in his speech for a bated breath of a moment. "Ree? Alright, I'm coming in." Tears fell down her face when the handle twisted and the door creaked open, inevitably opening the door to Pandora's Box. They couldn't go back now.

He focused in on her hunched form when the door slowly fell away and his view was unobscured. He felt his chest clench as his eyes landed on her tear-stricken face, pale and twisted in pain. The only thought that came to him was to comfort his beloved.
"Ree, what's wrong love?" He knelt next to her; watching broken sobs leaving her pretty pink lips. "Hey, you gotta talk to me, okay? Please tell me what's wrong?"
She shook her head, tumultuous streams running down her face. He noticed her hands clenching around an object in her hands, which were turning white from the pressure she was exerting on it. He felt his panicky expression fall away as he went to hold her gripped fist. He faltered slightly when she flinched and jerked away from him a fraction. He held her hand firmly in his palm and started to stroke it in a soothing motion. He relaxed slightly when her breathing stuttered instead of the erratic pants she was doing earlier and continued with his calm, repetitive caresses.
She would tell him soon enough. She would show him...whatever it was; it was in her hand, and in her heart. She would tell him - he was already there. And he would wait forever if he had to.
"Do-will you want it?"
He startled at how soft and frayed her voice sounded in the echoing area and nearly cringed. What was she so upset about? He turned his confused expression to her as his hand lifted to cradle her face.
"Want what?" His other hand clutched hers when she tried to break away. "Want what, Ree? Please, you need to tell me wha-"
She hung her head before she ripped her clenched fists from his grip. He turned towards her hands as they shook... the strength she had been holding the object with vanished, her hands unclenched and he could see what she had stared at. Held. Used. Two lines were proudly presenting the answer it attained. Two, bright blue lines.
