Chapter 11

SinceI refused to train with Demetri and Felix, I roamed around the castle. There wasn't really anything to do until I bumped into a certain someone whilst I was looking sideways to take a peek at the rooms.

As I looked up, I saw the one that I didn't want to see.

Alec.

"Am I even supposed to say sorry?" I raised an eyebrow at him as I pushed myself pass him with so much impact that if he weren't a vampire, I knew that he was going to stumble down on the ground. "Guess not," I felt his hand grabbed my wrist and spun me around so I was facing him once again. What shocked me was when I saw him smirking at me. "What the hell are you doing?" I tried to pull my hand away from him but figured out that it was no use. We were both vampires so we just had the same strength of a girl and boy. And naturally, boys were stronger than girls.

All I wanted was to rip that plastered smirk off of his face.

He didn't answer my question, instead, he dragged me out of the castle. "Where the hell are you taking me?"

"You'll see,"

I just noticed that Alec was wearing something normal. He was wearing something so casual that you would have had mistaken him for a normal high school boy who's so popular in school that he got all the girls swooning on his feet. He was wearing a plain white shirt and denim pants.

Where he managed to get his clothes?

I didn't bother to ask.

The trip to the mall was silent. He didn't talk to me, and I surely didn't want to talk to him. But his hand was still holding my wrist and I couldn't pull away from it.

"What are we doing here?" I asked. I just went to the mall with Jane not that long ago...so why was I back here again? I didn't need anything.

"We need to pick your clothes for the ball,"

"The ball?" I repeated.

"Don't tell me that you already forgot?" he asked as we went to the second floor of the mall.

The only memory that I had of the upcoming ball was Brynn Cullen and how Alec left me alone to defend myself because he thought that I was going to kill the love of his life. And that was the time when I knew the nomads were after me because of Brynn herself.

"Who told you that I was even going?" I asked him as I used every ounce of strength I had to get out of his grip. Luckily, I succeeded.

Maybe Alec was excited because Brynn was invited and there was a slight chance that she would come to the ball together with the whole Cullens.

But I, on the other hand, couldn't care less about parties such as the upcoming ball. What was the big deal with vampires all over the world gathering in one place anyway?

Even without me caring, Alec grabbed my hand instead of my wrist and dragged me to a store located in the second floor of the mall.

I didn't know why but there was like a spark of electricity flowing through my body when he touched me. I was no poet or writer but I knew I sounded like a protaganist in one of those romance novels that could be seen in the bookstores. I couldn't quite say that the electricity was caused by Alec with having one of those moments where the girl was falling in love with the boy. If I could put what I was feeling into words, I knew that the spark of electricty was really caused by Alec, not because I was falling in love with him, but maybe because it was the first time I was touched by a boy.

Of course, I did not consider all those teenage boys I killed who tried to stop me from killing them by pushing me away from them. Even if those kills included body contact, they were never counted in my 'teenage' experience such as this one.

Alec continued to browse through the formal dresses that were inside the boutique. There was a lady following and assisting us.

As I read her mind, I knew that she was trying to figure out why we were inside the boutique. Teens these days didn't have money and Alex and I both looked young. And with us looking for a good dress surprised her. She knew to herself that the dresses or gowns that they sell were expensive enough to feed fifty average people in a year, including herself.

I tried to go inside Alec's mind but saw that he didn't even let his guard down. His sensory deprivation was up and was invisibly surrounding him so I wouldn't really be able to use my ability on him.

In other words, Alec was smart.

"You do know that it's expensive here, right?" I said with annoyance in my voice.

"I know that it's expensive," he shrugged then said without the employee hearing, "But there are two options of how we can pay the items we're going to buy. One is money and you're the second option,"

He held a dress in front of me, shook his head then placed it back to where it belonged. "So you're saying that you brought me here to pay for everything? Or talk us out of everything?"

"The Volturi's got some riches, Blyte," again, hearing him mutter my name instead of my made-up last name mentally surprised me. Hearing my name from his mouth was different on its own. "Even without you using your ability, we would be able to pay for everything. We can even buy the whole mall with the amount of money the Volturi has,"

"And why do I need to go to the ball?"

"Because Aro said so,"

"And when did I ever follow an instruction or a direct order from your master?" I raised an eyebrow at him. If we weren't vampires, I knew that we looked just like some ordinary high school students who didn't get along with each other.

Alec didn't have an answer to my question because I knew that I won the game. So, he held another dress in front of me to change the topic. And since I knew for myself that I was the one to easily get distracted, I went on with his topic.

"You're picking pink dresses, why is that?" I asked him. I hated the color of pink, it was the complete contradiction of my personality.

"It's to piss you off, of course,"

"And you're saying that you want to try something with me?"

"You're cute when you're angry," he pointed out and I couldn't help but feel something tingly inside me. "It seems like we're a normal couple when you're angry,"

"Normal your face!" I smacked him on the chest. Again, if he was a normal human, he would have flown to the other side of the room. But because he was a vampire like me, he stood on his ground, like my smack didn't even touch him.

And for the first time since I knew of Alec, I heard him laugh. It wasn't something that people saw everyday. And I couldn't help but smile knowing that maybe spending time with Alec wasn't a bad idea after all.
