By the time I get to class, I'm already healed from my beating from Andrew. That's one of the perks of being a werewolf: quickened healing. We heal more than twice as fast as humans. It really comes in handy since I get beaten to a pulp practically every day by the jerk that I have the displeasure of calling my mate.

I manage to sit down in my seat right as the tardy bell rings, and I sigh in relief. At least, I'm not late today. As the teacher calls out roll, I stare at the window and daydream. I imagine running through the woods in wolf form, chasing the birds and butterflies.

I'm snapped out of my daydream with a wince. "Oh my God, they're really throwing a party this weekend?" I cover my ears and try to locate the source of the noise.

Two girls, one in a cheerleader uniform and the other wearing normal clothes, are talking to themselves quietly. Well, to everyone they're being quiet, but, to me, they're practically shouting in my ears.

"Yeah, tonight" I try to tone down my hearing sensitivity as they continue squealing about some party. "I hear that they're even gonna have alcohol and some weed, too!" I scrunch up my nose in distaste. I've never tried marijuana, but I personally think that alcohol is disgusting. As a werewolf, my senses are heightened, and the taste of alcohol is overly bitter and sour. I hate it.

I sigh in relief when their conversation finally ends. Apparently, there's a party at someone's lake house tonight, and nearly everyone in the school is going. It's the full moon tonight, and my sense would be too heightened for me to handle it. It's not like the full moon forces me to change. It just makes the wolf part of me more powerful, but if someone were to be turned to a werewolf, they'd have trouble controlling the shift at all, especially on the full moon. I would never go to a party anyway, though. I'm socially awkward and tend to have extremely sensitive hearing, so big social gatherings of any kind are always out of the question, except for funerals. Those tend to be rather quiet.

Sitting through the day boredly, I'm so thankful when the final bell rings and class is dismissed. I practically rush out of the room. The afternoon is my favorite time of day. Andrew, as much as I love him (to my displeasure), has football practice or conditioning practically every afternoon, no matter the season. The football team always trains, because our team are the champions and don't want to risk losing their title. Not to mention, the coach is extremely strict.

Practically sprinting, I make my way to the woods. The thing about our town, is that it's literally surrounded by woods. I'm just lucky enough to both live by the woods and go to school near the woods as well. Getting far enough into the forest, I begin to strip my clothes off, getting ready to shift. No one comes into the woods anymore, because there's hardly anyting to do. Of course, we get drunk teenagers every once in a while, but people don't come in as often as you'd think.

Standing naked in the forest is weird, to say the least. It makes you feel vulnerable and exposed, but that feeling quickly goes away as I shift into my wolf form. The bones pop and shift rater painfully as my spine changes its shape. Panting, I grab my bag, that I stuffed my clothes into. Holding it gently in my large teeth, I start trotting home, taking my time strutting through the forest. Feeling the sunshine that streams through the treetops shimmer against my fur and the warm powdery dirt underneath my large paws, is the most amazing sensation there is. Obviously, we werewolves have to stay out of sight. Regular wolves already freak people out, but we're much bigger than normal wolves, and twice as threatening.

It takes around twenty minutes for me to reach the house. Our backyard has a fence around the sides, but its open to the woods. Alpha is sitting on the back porch, obviously relaxing after work. I'm not entirely sure what he does, but I know he works from home. I trot over to him, and he smiles at me.

"Good afternoon, Adam," he tells me, patting my head as I pass. My tail wags when he runs his hand along my head, and he chuckles softly at that. I place my bag in one of the chairs next to him and turn away to go for a run. "Adam," he calls, making me turn back to him. He's holding my phone up. I'd slap myself if I were in human form. He turns the ringer on for me, just in case I'm running and they need to reach me, I'll be able to hear the phone. "You should really remember to turn this on before you shift." He gives me a pointed look, and I feel my ears fall back in embarrassment. I apologetically lick his hand, making him chuckle before setting my phone down for me.

Feeling my tail wag excitedly, I bark quietly and sprint towards the woods.

I'm not sure how long I'm out in the forest. I just know that I'm panting and feeling hot as I push myself through the trees. Feeling my muscles and lungs burn pleasantly, I leap over rocks and stray roots that poke through the forest floor. I can acutely hear the birds tweet and their wings flap as they fly overhead. I barely even notice how dark it has gotten. The stars come out, twinkling in the darkening sky, and I sprint through the forest with moonlight shining on my fur. The moon is full and well into the sky when I hear my phone ring. It's an absolutely annoying default tone, and I rush home to answer it and make the sound stop.

"Hello?" I ask, standing naked on the back porch and panting from my shift and run.

"Adam!" It's Daniel. "Adam, you need to get down to the hospital immediately, and bring my dad!"

I double take and start going inside. "Whoa, Danny, calm down!" I tell him, going upstairs towards my room. The best thing about running in shifted form is that you aren't sweaty when you change back. "What happened?"

Suddenly, Markus's voice comes through the phone. "Adam, get your ass down here."

"Markus, what happened?"

I hear him sigh. "Adam," he starts, sounding grim. "A girl's been bitten."
