"Hey" David said with a huge smile as he enters his best friends house. "Hey dave, I'm glad you came-I have something really important to tell you" she says closing her door.
"Okay sure" He chirps as he sits down on her couch. "Do you want anything? Water, soda, a beer?" Liza jokes and David chuckled softly and shook his head. "A water would be nice".
A few moments later Liza tosses David a water bottle and he thanks her and opens it taking a sip. "So what's up" he says and Liza looks down at her hands that lay on her lap. "What's wrong?" David asks pulling Liza closer to him and engulfing her into a hug.
"I have to tell you something but I'm scared you're going to be mad.." she says nervously. "Liza whatever it is you can tell me okay?" He says softly while connecting his hands with hers. "Okay here it goes.." she sighs out and David waits patiently.
"I've been seeing this guy for a while now and yesterday he asked me to be his girlfriend" she says quietly not looking at David. Mostly because she didn't want to see him hurt. David's heart dropped but he maintained a calm and straight face. "And uh.. what did you say?" He asks scared of what she'd say.
"I said yes" she whispered now making eye contact with David. However David couldn't keep eye contact with her. He looked away from her, turning his head towards the TV. His hands slowly pull away from hers gently as he puts his hands on his lap.
Liza looks down at the loss of contact she had with him as she sees his chest raise up and down. "Are you mad?" She asks quietly. "No of course not" he says gulping down the lump in his throat. "You don't have to lie to me David, tell me how you feel" she says.
"You want the honest truth?" He asks and she nods. "It hurts. A lot. Because everyday I felt like we were a step closer to finally get back together. And it's like- I don't know. I guess I just feel defeated" "Why?"
"Because I waited for you for so long. So freakin long. And it's like that's a waste now" he says with his voice wavering a bit. "Im sorry David I didn't mean for you to feel like that it just.. happened" Liza said. There was an awkward pause and no one spoke. Until again David spoke up.
"Does he make you happy?" He asks. "Yes, very" Liza says. "Does he treat you well?" "He does, he's very sweet" she answers again. "You really like him huh?" "I do, but I don't want him getting in the way of our healthy friendship we have" Liza says.
"Yeah" David whispers. He doesn't want to cry in front of her because he doesn't want her to feel guilty. "I have to use the bathroom real quick" David says before rushing to the bathroom and closing and locking the door.
There he lets his tears stream down his face. He looks at himself in the mirror and cries more. He couldn't help but think that he's the reason why him and Liza didn't work out. Like he's not good enough. But that was all completely false.
"David you okay in there?" Liza says through the door and David sighs. "Y-yeah I'll be out in a second" he lies and Liza slowly nods and walks away. David decides to splash water on his face and clean up before heading back out. He opens the door and meets Liza back on the couch, yet this time he's edged a bit away from her than before.
Liza sighs before talking again. "I know this is probably all confusing and all-" "It's not confusing at all. I understand completely. After we broke up you just stuck me around as a sex buddy and when you found another guy you drop me? You obviously don't care that I have feelings for you" David rants and Liza shakes her head.
"That's not it at all! And David we've been broken up for almost a year at this point. Shouldn't you get over me?" Liza says and David's heart drops to his stomach.
"I just had hope" he says sharply as he gets up from the couch. "Where are you going?" She asked getting up as well. "I'm going home I don't feel good" "David-" "Liza please! Please if you care about me you'll leave me alone" He says tears threatening to spill.
"I didn't mean for you to get hurt I promise" Liza says. "You're fine, okay? I was just stupid enough to still be hungover a girl that obviously was over me" He says before getting into his car and driving away.
Liza looked at the white Tesla drive away and couldn't help but feel guilty.

David slammed the door of his house and startled Natalie who was watching The Office on Netflix.
"Hey David are you okay?" Natalie asked noticing his tear stained face. "No" he answers truthfully and Natalie frowns and gets up from the "Cloud" couch and goes over to console him.
"What's the matter?" She asks and David breaks down. "Liza, she got a new boyfriend" he sobbed and Natalie pulled him into a hug. She knew how much he loved her and for this to happen really hurt David.
"I just really thought that we were soulmates" he chocked out. "I know David I know," Natalie said frowning. Then suddenly there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get it, stay here" she says and David nods.
Natalie opens the door and is taken by surprise. "Liza what are you doing here?" She asked. "I just want to see David" she answers and tries to go in but Natalie blocks her.
"Um excuse me" Liza says a little confused by her actions. "I think it's best if you're not around him right now" Natalie snaps.
"That's not your decision I'm sorry" Liza snaps back. "You just broke his heart! What? Do you want to see him in more pain?" "I didn't mean to hurt him-" "Well you did". Liza scoffs and pushes Natalie out of the day.
"David!" Both girls yell.
"Natalie tried to kick me out!"
"I told Liza you didn't want to see her!"
"David what's it gonna be?" Both girls again yell.
"I-uh".
