Depression is quiet.
(Y/n) and Denki grew up as childhood friends, living in the same street and going to the same school. It immediately clicked between them the first time they saw each other. It was a freezing afternoon in February, tiny snowflakes falling from the sky and painting the street in a beautiful white. Denki and his mother had walked over to greet the new family in this neighbourhood.
"Be friendly, okay?", said his mother and patted his golden hair, before she softly knocked against the white wooden door. It didn't take long until a young woman opened the door and smiled slightly.
"Hello, can I help you?", she asked.
Denki's mother returned the smile. "Hello, my name is Kaminari Akari and that's my son Denki." The boy waved slightly before his hand quickly disappeared in the pockets of his jeans again. "We're your neighbours from now on." She held the little cake in her hands towards the (h/c) haired woman who seemed more open and excited now.
"Ah! Thank you, my name is (L/n) Mayumi, nice to meet you." She took the cake. "My husband is not home, but that's my son (Y/n)."
Only now Denki noticed the small figure, hidden behind the legs of the woman. (H/c) long bangs covered most of his face, but Denki could see the most beautiful (e/c) eyes he had ever seen shimmering behind them. Small fingers tightly clinging onto the fabric of his mother's sweatpants.
The shyness and anxiety inside his body dissolved into nothing and Denki smiled brightly, stepping a little forward, not too close to frighten the other boy but enough to see him better. A wide baby blue sweater nearly covered his entire body and Denki was sure his heart was going to explode at that moment.
He wanted to protect the boy against everything evil, forever.
"Hey, I'm Denki! You're (Y/n), right?"
Maybe if (Y/n) had just looked a little closer, payed more attention.
"Did those dumb guys hurt you again ... ?"
Four years had passed since that day and the two boys were really close, knew everything about each other.
"I already told you that you shouldn't fight them."
"But they sad bad things about you!"
A sad frown lay on (Y/n)'s face, deepening when Denki hissed as he touched his wound softly. He didn't say anything and just continued to clean the wounds, until his eyes landed on something.
"Are those scars-"
(Y/n) couldn't react as Denki quickly pulled his arm away and covered it with the sleeve of his yellow hoodie. A questioning look was everything he gave him.
"Hehe, yeah, I got them when I was very young ... Anyway! Do you want to build a snowman? It's snowing!"
They knew everything about each other. Or that's what (Y/n) thought.
There are good actors in this world.
Ten years had passed and they were teenagers now.
"Hey, Denki. We tell each other everything, right?"
(Y/n) didn't even notice how he flinched, his gaze was glued to the ground, counting the screws of the rail.
"Of course. Why do you ask?"
"I don't know, I just ... felt like it. I love you, you know."
"Yeah, I love you too."
"Will you always stay by my side?"
"Yes, I will."
Maybe if he had heard how Denki's voice broke at the end or how he looked at the ground, shame and guilt glittering in his eyes, he would have known that something was wrong.
But the little yellow flowers were more interesting.
If you could turn back time experience a moment again, would you do it? Would you try to correct your mistakes?
"You are a good liar, do you know that?"
The boy scoffed, clenching his fist so tightly that his knuckles turned white and the pretty little flowers in his hand crumpled slightly.
"A very good liar. 'I'll stay at your side, (Y/n)' 'I'll protect you, (Y/n)' ... all fucking lies!"
He threw the flowers to the ground, straight on the grave of his best friend.
"I thought we told each other everything?! I thought you trusted me?! I thought- I-"
Hot tears streamed down his cheek, burning because of the cold. He sank to his knees, in the snow.
"Why couldn't you just tell me that something was wrong?"
Silence. Snowflakes landed on his black hoodie, melting immediately.
"No, what am I saying ... I should have payed more attention to you. If I had looked closer, maybe you would be still ..." Loud any heavy sobs interrupted his mumbling.
"I'm so sorry Denki. If only I could restart and bring you back ..."
